F3 Cubalaya chicks. I have never in my 20 years of raising poultry hatched out chicks that feathered out in this color. I am baffled and am wondering what color these will eventually end up being. They hatched as regular looking blacks and blues. What breed(s) are they? I can't recall ever seeing chicks quite like that.

Wow! Hard to believe that this happens. My hen is a bit heavy in the butt feathering department, she's a Wyandotte, but her chicks are over 2 weeks old, still can hardly believe it happened. LOVE the Mindy stories.
Great names! Thanks. The kids liked Ernie, but it's a bit too 'Sesame Street' for me. I like Everest...but need to have a family vote.how about
Egbert!
or Eeyore.................but this just doesn't seem like a goats temperament..........
Eye candy
Ernest or Ernie
Everest--------------that sounds mighty
good luck they sure look beautiful!
Pretty cool, would love to see them fully feathered...
Yes, they appear not to be developing. Let me know if you'd like eggs, you can PM me.I'm not an expert candler, but I've started candling many eggs before they go into the incubator, to check that the air cell is up mostly. That has made me familiar with how a "clear" (undeveloped) egg looks, and any that stay that way past a week in the incubator I know are not developing and can be removed.
Those pics look undeveloped to me, so if the eggs are more than a week old, you might as well toss them and get some others.
My suggestion: Egbert and Earl.Vet says everyone looks good but I need to keep the babies better protected for a few more weeks as they are hawk bait (uhh YIKES). She came by to disbud the babies and Lucky me, TWO of them, and the boys at that! are polled, so they did not need disbudding. Here's a little cuteness for you, the 2 boys who are as yet un named...I need E names. ![]()

So sorry, that just sucks.Had to cull a 3 week old silkie chick with a crossed beak yesterday. I really, really, hate this part of keeping poultry. It ranks up there with a bad decision costing the life of a bird. I know this wasn't my fault, but I still feel bad.
Be thankful your hubby is encouraging animal hoarding!I hate this thread. Just when I talk myself out of one animal, someone offers another! I really really want those poults, Avlana! I just know I shouldn't. I am still struggling with not hatching chivken eggs, and a friend of dh has kittens. DH has been telling me to get goats lately.
So cute! Congrats! Here are some picsThis is lucky

They look awesome Stake! Glad they are doing well.
Tomayto, tomaato. So is this enabling or being neighborly
That Mindy is a pip!So sorry to hear you lost one of the chicks... I've been lucky to not have that particular thing happen yet... but I know it is a real risk, especially with feather footed breeds or even just chicken mama's who happen to be heavy on the leg or rump fluff. One lady I talk to actually trims her broodies legs now to prevent it since she lost one chick that way. One of our 3 broodies who hatched today doesn't have that problem... though she has a serious moulting problem! She had a horrible spring moult, and hadn't feathered back in yet when she went broody. I only gave her 4 eggs because I figured she would hatch 2 or maybe 3 of them and wouldn't be stressed trying to take care of them... so of course she hatched all 4!We will be watching her closely to make sure all is well and she covers them OK... seems ok so far. Of course Mindy figured she would need some extra help... I went into the coop to check on things during a construction break today (I get suspicious when it is quiet) and I found Mindy had somehow managed to squeeze through the pop door into the broody hut??
she is 55 lbs and the door is like 8x10??? anyway... the 'hut' is about 3x3 and Mindy was curled up in there with Ilea and her chicks, smiling ear to ear... thank goodness that little hen was raised with Mindy hovering so she wasn't even freaked out by sharing a nest with her!
. (now me?? I was freaked!)

They are awesome! What kind are they? And what will they look like when they grow up?
