Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Here are some pics of our coop and run progress. Hopefully we'll get it all finished today... we're behind on the "schedule" we set for ourselves due to DH being under the weather for a couple days. Chicken math was used in the creation of the "schedule" before we even have the chickens lol! Sorry if this is pic overload, I'm just really excited and very proud of what we're accomplishing. Framing the run: Nesting boxes going in: "Front" of the coop (I love the Rooster hot plate on the door): Nesting boxes from the inside: Hard to see roosts in front of their "panoramic window": 4ft total "roosting space" attached with hook things in the middle and screwed into the walls at either end: And a pic of the pop door with window above from roosts: Now we just need to close in the nesting boxes and paint the interior and exterior of the coop, finish enclosing the run and get the girls!
Looks great! My only suggestion would be to add thin (3/8ths or 1/2 inch) slats on ramp about every 4 to 6 inches to provide traction for the birds. Loving the rest of it and so awesome to see you doing an urban set up!

Now I feel like an idiot. I didn't check the date, just took hubby's word for it on the article :/ sad thing is, it doesn't sound too far fetched. That's the last time I listen to him about anything lol.

We got some painting done on the coop today. I'll put some pictures up later on when I have signal. We're calling it "The Barn" lol

Quiet day on here... so I'll do like aurora and take the opportunity to get in some pictures. took these this morning...we had 3 broodies hatch a total of 17 chicks this weekend. All either silver pencil rocks or white Rocks. One poor hen was in the middle of a hard molt when she started brooding. But she still hatched 4 for 4.

awesome pics! I can't wait to have the broody experience someday :)

Pulled some more chicks from the incubator and hatcher, total now is 74!
Hopefully a few more will make it out.

And I hope I have more luck telling them apart once they fluff out. I have no idea what a Breese chick looks like, but according the empties, I've got 7 of them in that pile of little chickies. Time to play "where's Waldo Breese".

x2 !!

Last call for 3 young cockerels, free for you guys. 2 are good meat birds, one has a gimpy leg that buckles and pops all around when it walks. The other has severely crooked and twisted toes. The last one is fine. Would make some gorgeous babies. They're CCL and Light Brahma mix (the one with the weird leg) and the other two are barred rock mixes.

Posting them on CL right now.

I got a kick out of watching my gals today..............

they loved sunnying themselves............and I sooooo wish I could have a picture of them doing this because on at least 3 separate occasions I see them peeking at food in their food bowl and then lying down ...........keeping their face in the bowl and lying on their side with their wing out to catch some sun! 2-3 birds with heads in bowl and sunning themselves!

maybe somewhat like humans on the beach..............lying around with a cooler right next the them................

it just seems a nice soft grassy spot would make for a better headrest???? but what do I know!

plus they all found a way to sneak under the temp fencing I have up to give them a little grassy area to graze...............they clearly wanted to FREE range and knew they could squeeze under the silly fence!

lots more antics................and it sure is fun to just sit and watch their shannanigans!
I remember the first time we watched the chicks sun themselves, we truly thought something was wrong..they just all of the sudden laid down and melted into the grass..the craziest thing ever...hahaha...I knew raising chickens was going to be an adventure, but this is the life!..I can't even imagine life without poultry now..hahahaha..Hello, My name is Danielle and I am addicted to poulty

Good evening all:

Could somebody with a bit of knowledge set me straight?

Well broody #1 set, I push about 1/2 doz eggs under her ......at some point her sister, started pushing her out of the nesting box and laying extra eggs....I let this happen figuring the eggs were always covered and warm...well, later on, one chick was found dead on the coop floor and another didn't make it out of the shell correctly....this morning I found about six eggs pushed out of the box and laying on the coop floor...and, now both broody #1 and her sister (aka broody #2) sitting in the same box...I move the six remaining eggs to a different box and put broody #1 on the remaining eggs....fast forward a couple of hours...all the eggs have been moved back to the original box and both girls are sitting in the box....of my six adult laying chooks, two are broody, two are laying and the other two have just quit for the past month or two...
Sorry to hear things aren't going well with the crazy broodies...only the sky knows what they are thinking

...Do you have an incubator you could put the eggs in ? Hope they get their act together for you!!
