Ok, I think I know what pipping and zipping are, but I want to be sure. Could someone hand me the BYC dictionary?

Blarney covered this 1 pretty well.

The husband is interested in having me hatch a group of meat birds for him. Well, not me personally, but in the incubator. HAHA.

Anyway, who does the meat bird thing and what do you recommend we get? And if you have hatching eggs of that breed, let me know.

We are thinking into expanding into meat birds (chickens) and Muscovy's.

Heritage breeds that make good meat birds:
Dorkings
Brahmas
Cornish
Cornish x Rock

Wanted to share an interesting tidbit, while moving eggs from the incubator to the hatcher last week, we somehow missed 3 eggs that then sat out on the counter, outside of the incubator, no heat for THREE days before I noticed them. Was pretty bummed, but on a whim, marked them, and set them in the hatcher. ALL 3 hatched. The resilience of chicks amazes me.

I thought you were going to say they hatched on the counter and you found the chicks! Lol

Here are some pics from the eggs my friends classroom hatched. I think one is a rooster :( one is much much smaller than the other two. I always fall in love with the runt and then I find it dead. Hoping that isn't the case this time!! One has the pretty markings (lacing?) you mentioned.

Also, I took some close ups of our cochin. Any guesses on gender?

I want your white crested blue polish pullet!!! And your cochin is a little boy. Should be strutting & crowing soon.

I know I can not count chicks before the hatch but those 16 Muscovy eggs that I put under the broodies on memorial day, everyone of them had good veining last night, that's a lot of Quacker's, or hisser's in this case.

May need to unload a few babies next month, my pen for the scovie's is not gonna hold that many.

Where's the picture? We need to see what's going in to make an accurate judgement.:lau
its pretty funny....baby chick sometimes doesn't come when mama calls so mama goes back and baby hops on board....
Yep, the view is so much better from up here, I am waiting for Fisher Lady to chime in here, I hardly ever let broodies hatch, I hope this is common, since I have 7 broodies on eggs right now...wouldn't mind watching them walk around like that.
