Hello, everyone!
I had chickens and turkeys several years ago, but I had to re-home all of them due to my neighbors not liking my roosters. The code enforcement guy made us get rid of them.
However, I have been going through a rough time in my life. I have suffered from depression, but this time it was the worst. My husband suggested getting a few hens again, since I loved having chickens before. Besides, he said, that neighbor moved, he said.
We went to our local auction for a few weeks. I told him I wouldn't bid on anything until I saw exactly what I wanted. This past weekend, there were 3 young (7 month old) Silkie hens. I told him I would probably bid on them. So then, he goes and bids on 50 quail eggs and 6 mystery chicks that were about 5 weeks old. And I got my Silkies...
We quickly came home and threw together another coop in our shed.
So, I guess I'm back in the bird business!
The plan is to hatch the quail eggs and sell them since neither of us has any experience with quail. I guess he figured that I'd enjoy playing around with my incubator again. If any of those chicks are roosters, they have to go to freezer camp.
I believe the chicks he bought are barred rock and either black sex links, or black australorps.
