What I have is in my signature. Sadly the only thing I have right now is bantam cochin over a RIR/Light Sussex mix eggs. The hen is my best layer. She's 3 years old and still gives me medium (borderline large) brown eggs every day. In a few weeks I'll be able to supply bantam cochins and frizzle serama mixes. In winter I'll start getting guinea and duck eggs.

The next swap is Sunday morning at the Fayette County Fairgrounds starting at sunrise. I get there around 8 though. Stuff is picked over by then, but I really don't need anything.
I would be interested in a bantam Cochin roo if you ever have one you want to sell

Gah I just sold two cockerels last week. I made a deal that the guy could have both for $5 and he took them. I would have gladly given you one. I'm positive I'll have more in spring. You can have a pair if you'd like. :)

. yes please keep me in mind! There is nothing cuter than a Banty roo and I love to hear the crow!

I'm up to egg 7. Today's was speckled, so maybe from a different bird? All of them have been laid in the mid to late afternoon. Is this normal? I don't know why I thought they laid in the morning.

They all vary widely in regards to the time of day for laying...and some hens seem to have about the same time every day and others will get later and later each day till they skip a day, then will start early again and repeat the process.

I had to move my mallard pair out of the chicken coop. The drake would not let my hens go in to the nesting boxes to lay. He would guard the door and chase them out if they did get in. I hope after mating season he calms down. They have all been together since they were a few days old.

Then I have a hen that wants to sit, so I moved her into a separate area in the run. It's actually a small coop from TSC. So nobody can get to her, but they can all see each other. I gave her 4 eggs ( she is just a bantam). Don't you know it she will not sit now!

What to do
What to do........

If you have to move her, move her at night. I find with first time broody hens, I mark their eggs and leave them in the main coop until it's hatching time, they are WAY more likely to stay where I move them if I wait until at least one chick has hatched. She'll leave eggs, but not a a chick....usually.

I am looking to buying some young hens in 4-5 weeks, after we get back from vacation. Our new big coop will be finished before we leave and I am eager to add to my flock. I am interested in Brahmas, Sussex, Wyandotte and maybe an easter egger or two. Anyone near Pittsburgh , Butler, Indiana, Kittanning areas wanting to sell these breeds or maybe other breeds?

I have easter eggers and just got an incubator id live to try out lol. If you want me to hatch out a couple for you. They'd most likely be olive eggers though as my roo is a black copper marans lol.

For everyone who was following my kitten updates, I'm happy to report that Ivan has gone to his new home. He was adopted by a young couple tonight who accepted the challenge to help him heal and grow mentally :)

Ok thanks, I put her back in the original nest and don't you know it, she is sitting! So I put the eggs under her and I'll keep an eye on her. This is my first time with this. So I'm not expecting great results. It's like everything else with these chickens you learn as you go.:idunno
