When I got my flock of chickens two years ago, I bought two-week old chicks which included five speckled sussex and five Buff Orpingtons. At about eight weeks of age, I kept three Buff Orpingtons and two speckled sussex for myself, and sold the rest to a friend. Two years later, I'm no longer friends with this guy so I didn't even want the chickens, and still don't, but my parents agreed to take them and take care of them when he went to college last week. I still have all five of mine, but he only has two of the speckled sussex remaining, along with some additions to his flock.
Anyway, something interesting was that when the new chickens were brought here, the first thing his speckled sussex did was run up to my speckled sussex. None of the other breeds matched, and there was no bond between them. I doubt they remember growing up together, but I find it interesting how they recognize their own breed and prefer to be together
