@LittleMissPurdy (can't quote right now) I know what you're talking about with the apples! I finished another 12 quarts of applesauce the other day (I think that makes about 25 for the season), about 10 quarts of ape pure filling, the dehydrator has been loaded at least 4 times (10 trays) and I still have about 2 bushels of apples out on the screen porch! AHHHHH! I took a break from them today to cut up the 2 boxes of onions to freeze. I'm sputtering out and still have 3/4 box to go!

i even hate to complain really..we are very fortunate to have this produce. Didn't have to pay anything for it...just lids and the electricity to get everything canned, well..and a few other ingredients..but you know what i mean. ..traded peppers & bean salad for the apples...still can have more apples if i want more to do..hahaha, they are starting to get older though..a few more spots than at the beginning. I just might torture myself and get a few more for the peelings..now I have the "make your own AVC " bug to conquer! hahaha..might try to make crock pot apple butter

.....i am a glutton for punishment! It does feel good though to look at all the food you grow and prepare with your own hands..you know exactly what was were and how it was done...and what is in it!! Makes it a lot easier to eat!
Just put G-daughter down for evening nap..oh my..feels good to sit down..hahaha

, all the bean salad jars sealed
yesss.gif
...only had two jars not seal for this year so far...feeling pretty good about that too.
Made broccoli soup for tomorrows dinner..will make a greens salad to go with it. Collected the last of all those just the other night, before the "freeze" that didn't happen in our back yard...
Never did frozen onions..how are they on the thaw-out? Do they get mushy?..stronger flavor?...i know that hot peppers get hotter when you freeze them...my gosh, had to learn that lesson the hard way

Is anyone in Chester County interested in some roosters, or can give me some advice on how to re home them? I have 3 roosters, and only 4 hens, so I'd like to find homes for 2 - I call them Buffalorps
smile.png
Their dad was a Black Austrolorp; mother was a Buff Orpington. They are beautiful! They were hatched on April 6, so 28 weeks old?

BAZOOKA
CHICLET

Any help would be appreciated!
There aren't many roosters more beautiful than these!

The birds are all gone. The couple that have the chicken hens and breeding trio of Bourbon Reds were very happy with how all the birds look. The couple brought two toms to their place to butcher, but came back with money. A friend of theirs lost his tom a day or so ago, and he couldn't get over how gorgeous my boys are. :yesss:  No one went to freezer camp.
Good bye, everyone. I will KIT.

Pretty please KIT :( I'm gonna miss you so much!

it is so satisfying, it's just SO much work! I ended up with 7 1/4 gallon zip lock bags of onions. We only use them for cooking. Mostly in eggs but in done other stuff too. I've never tried just thawing them and using them raw so I couldn't tell ya lol. I'm reloading the dehydrator as we speak, Fuji apples lol. Of I'm so ready to go relax but if I don't get these fine they're going to start going bad.

be safe & happy

didn't thibnk it was too cold out there...until i washed everything & filled waters...yeah, hands are rebelling. It is what it is. Your time = $$, either way, we pay..right?!
I would love a farmette, hate even calling it that, but you get the idea..only ting is..don't have the physical ability to do everything needed anyway...this is all contingent on winning the lottery so..i have lots of time to plan it all out;) .....hhaha, maybe i could afford to hire-out help then...
I will eventually have smaller areas that will be planted with chicken-food...different root/leaf veggies, and other items to add to their food bins...i am still learning how to keep/store root veggies and such over winter for us right now...this will all help in the long run with our & their food bill.
Trying to get the temps in the cellar figured out is the hardest part...this time of year it fluctuates all over place....cold enough one day..then BAM...mildew on the onions:( ...I will get this right, at some point.
Those birds are acting like I didn't even feed them yet...:/ . I KNOW they are full, their crops are swishing back & forth when they run..I think this cooler weather has them crazier than normal.

Crazier than normal? What does that look like?

Welcome to the fun!

have done peppers like that..probably the same kind of consistency then..they have a high water content too. Not to good for "fresh", but awesome in cooked dishes.

I have used the dehydrator for the first time...got it a a yard sale this spring..never even out of the box! 1.00..hahaha...It is just a little 4-tray thing, but it has done the herbs wonderfully & in a decent amount of time...so nice not to have to wait days/weeks for things to dry out..just hanging, and to tell you the truth I get tired of seeing the messiness of it all..

Dried in the machine..oregano, basil, spearmint, lavender, thyme... other herbs, flowers & such were done by hanging. It is so cool to have all the jars full & ready to go

I did just have an entire jar of pumpkin seeds go moldy
hmm.png
...i would have thought 2+ weeks would do it, but apparently not. I still have pumpkins to get seeds from, so not too concerned about it, but..now I am wondering if there isn't a better way to do this.....Do you think I could put them into the dehydrator?...or would it "cook" them?....
