Since chemical free is my selling point I do everything possible to avoid any chemical treatment.
I am in the process of installing small feeders in each area for oregano and cinnamon mixture.
Tell me all you know about feeding herbs to livestock ( all livestock )...

I did once have a relative who insisted on finishing hogs with brandy, and I must say his pork was very good. So maybe these odd ways do help.
 
Our family is relocating back to PA from GA next summer and we are looking for an area within 20 -25 miles of Malvern PA that allows backyard chickens. Can anyone give me some ideas? I think I read that Phoenixville does and West Chester do but are there any other areas?

Also, if the town/borough allows them, can a HOA ban them? I really want to avoid HOAS at all costs but we are going to be renting so they might be harder to avoid...

You guys are stuck with me for a few more days. It is killing me to see your birds, but I can't shut up with all this anxiety building up inside of me. Aren't you guys just soooo lucky?

I am about done packing stuff, and the yard isn't too bad. As soon as the kitchen is clean I will bring in the feeders and waterers to scrub. Wish me luck on remembering to shut off the water spigot outside before I leave!

I am popping in to say that today, ten months late, I received my Christmas gift for last year. If I had waited for DH to get it for me, it would be much longer. I am now the proud owner of an All American pressure canner. And there is nothing to can.

I could get an old cockerel out of the freezer, I guess. @fisherlady do I cold pack the meat or hot pack? If anyone else knows, please tell me.

welcome. My brother lived in King of Prussia and had a woman that worked for him that had some byc. Not sure where she lived, but if I see him I'll ask. He was pretty active in the community and may have some ideas.

Hi Barb:

Whether you are allowed chooks is on a township by township basis...most townships copy the county regs in their codes....West of West Chester is probably your best bet...I do not think in the city limits of Phoenixville or West Chester would be viable....(both are great places to hang out though)....by my understanding HOAs are mostly developments and yes, you agree by living there to agree with their restrictions and paying their fees....

And, if you are renting, your landlord ought to be on board from the beginning.....my two cents...

disclaimer..not responsible for any "side effects" that may occur with feeding herbs to animals..that being said..I give my birds what I grow, w/out chemicals..lavender, oregano, thyme, basil, spearmint...cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg...nothing has had ill-effects on any bird.
I don't believe they actually eat the lavender though....but they are fine with it in their coops...I haven't been doing this for years as you know *Wing..so, I am sure someone else may have more to add...
