Anne just put those eggs back under the broody, they may be a little late to hatch..even when the outside of the egg feels cold, it takes time for the inside to cool....it is surprising how much they can take.

Anyone else wake up to 1.5 ft of snow and a half inch of ice on top of that? It was insane the car had ice ALL over. It took like 20 minutes to take the ice off the windows!
Hello you are probably my closest BYC neighbor,
frow.gif
we had the same, maybe even more at the top of mountain. I'm hoping to get eggs next month for hatching, do you know anyone in the area that would have any of the following - Americaunas, BCMs, EEs, OEs, or Welsummers. Appreciate your help.

We should have Matans and OEs in the spring. :thumbsup

Our first group of chicks to reestablish our flocks are due to hatch on Monday. I locked down this morning, 5 are developed. I just love BLRW chicks, they are especially adorable in my mind.

I thought you had to wait a bit, or do you just relocate them to a different area? I've got to keep them in a new field. :(

:barnie. My broody's sister had to lay her egg in the same box, the the broody was kicked out right in front of the box, along with her eggs. One of them was cold. I don't know how they will hatch now. I will definitely be separating her next time. For sure! I will be amazed if any of them hatch.

Aurora, time for a dollar store run!

Incubator question.

I'm looking for a small incubator with an automatic turner. Something that will hold maybe 24 chicken/50 quail eggs. For those times I'm not really hatching.

I see some on eBay that appear to roll the eggs for turning. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they worth the roughly $100?

Just don't feel the need to fire up my big one for small hatches and my schedule doesn't make manual turning very possible. Or do I just use my coolerbator and hope I remember to turn?

Keep us updated on what you decide... I have wondered about the rolling on the side also...seems more natural and how a hen would do it..

Is anyone else thinking about those shiny new pages of seed catalogs???.. I know, a little early but really wanting to get started for the season
