Heading to Harrisburg.

Safe and all tucked in for the night, seeing these boys makes me realize that hubby is right, I need to quit messing with all different breeds and concentrate on specifics, and in my case that is meat and eggs... I can see these boys producing some really nice grow outs and of course the hen's will take care of the egg part

Did I really just say that hubby was right all along..

Will take me about 2 weeks to get everyone moved around but will post pics when they get moved over with the girls.

We are glad they are in a good home and will be happy with their new harem! I am hoping to hatch some more out this spring so may have either eggs or a few hens for you come summer.

Our Christmas diner is tomorrow. This is my version of turducken. There is a young heritage tom in pieces, a small ancona drake whole & 2 young mixed breed roosters (about 5 months old) whole. I'll simmer it all over night in my homemade chicken stock.

I have another roaster pan & a whole flock of birds. Come on over.

I was just thinking that too Stake! With the warmer weather ...........for Christmas week.....................and bright sun shine................I started looking thru seeds and garden catalogs and began planning my late winter and early spring projects.

How early is late winter?

what do you all plant first?

I have a bed that I set up in the fall, next to but outside of the run.................for spinach, lettuce, leek, chard etc......
its very sunny until the trees get their leaves all in...............so I thought the early greens might do well there.

I want to plant onions too this year.

last year I did not have must yield in my potato tower...............but I still want to try again. Maybe I did not wait long enough or............?????

supposed to be easy to grow potatoes............so I gotta do it!



What do you all do for onions..............do you buy started onions?


I am ready but then again its really only dec...................................when can I start planting????

I always plant my peas on St. Patrick's day....I plan on starting potatoes the first week in april...and the rest a bit later...I have gotten away a couple of times getting seedlings in around 04/07 but I have been frosted out a few times too....

I went back to orpingtons because they were such good layers.  My 'babies' of 6 months are even producing on par with my year olds (1 egg every other day atm avg).

How old are the "old girls"

What specific tactics have you tried?

Our older girls are almost 4. We've tried adding extra light in the coop, hot pepper, put eggs in the boxes, upped the protein, yogurt.

First time I've been on in days, holiday craziness!

I got a little greenhouse for christmas... my seeds will be on time this year!!! This summer my watermelons never got a chance to get ripe enough to be picked
