Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I don't think so because security was telling us to please leave the building that a fire was reported. Blue lights were blinking, siren sound over the loud speaker as well as announcements over the pa.
Wow, I hope everything is Ok and no one was hurt. A fire in those crowded halls would be awful. Now I'm worried that this could mess up our trip there Tuesday. I hope not, this is what the whole family looks forward too all year.

Has anyone tried making their own little heating pads with corn instead of rice, I dislike the smell of the rice ones...and I have lots of corn...I have a few small ones with rice that I heat up and put in my coat pockets on really cold days, but I smell that rice on my coat for days..I spend hours at a time outside, every little thing helps.

Also does anyone have a tried and true recipe for ham loaf that comes close to the Wenger's meats brand.

Flax works very well for those, but it is pricier. I believe the wrap I have contains flax. Good luck!

Washington county here!

Welcome!

Anne & LMP, I will gladly share!

Left the Farm Show a little bit ago as the fire alarm was ringing and the building was being evacuated. I had this strong urge to run back and save the birds! My little one wanted to reach in and get the eggs out of the cages. She had so much fun on her first trip. Deciding on a few breeds I may want to add, gonna check my notes when I get home. We are already discussing the possibility of entering our slate blue turkey next year.

LMP, road trip! :ya

Today's hatch was 8 CCL's, from 9 eggs. Looks like 4 pullets. If anyone wants a CCL cockerel (or 2) for free, PM me.

Congrats!

@Troyer . Not sure if you saw this from a couple days ago, but here are your chicks. Mama is teaching them how good scrambled egg is.

I did see it. They are looking good!

Hello & welcome:frow ...
why is everyone located so far away??!!:p ...haha
good grief...may be on the news tonight..as the "top story"....hope everything got taken care of quickly & nothing was hurt/damaged.
Did you get to see everything you wanted to before having to leave?...I hope so...
understood completely....

We were actually getting ready to head for the exit when the lights started blinking and the announcement started. I think we seen everything today and I think my daughter ate her way thru.

We didn't smell smoke or anything. When we were driving out we didn't see any firetrucks either. Hopefully it was a false alarm or burnt potato.

@AnneInTheBurbs & @LittleMissPurdy
Summer road trip would be awesome! Can snack on our fruits and veggies while touring the property and sampling wine.

So after the farm show and reading tonight I've decided I want to add wyandottes, minorcas and ameraucanas to my chicken flock. I would love some cubalayas, but seem like they may be hard to find. Definitely going to be tracking down Cayuga ducks and maybe some indian runners too.

Nothing so far sadly but I am looking to start a small flock in Robinson township

Hey, you're close to me... I'm in Beaver County and make pretty frequent trips down to Robinson. We just started last year when our 6yo came home from school wanting to hatch eggs (of course *I* wanted chickens for years, it only took a sweet smile from our daughter for Hubbs to say 'yes'). We currently have 4 hens (rhode island reds and black australorp) and one rooster (BA), but are hoping for a broody next year to expand our flock.

I have heard of using corn, but I'm not sure if you need a certain kind (so that it doesn't pop). I've used all kinds of things, my favorite is a mix of rice (jasmine has a nicer smell), coarse salt, and flax seeds. You can also throw some lavender in there for fragrance. I don't find mine smell at all... I remember my mom having one ages ago that smelled SO bad, I think maybe the type of rice makes a difference. I've also heard the corn ones can have an unpleasant odor as well (and molding if they get wet). I think the ratios in mine are about 1/2 jasmine rice, 1/4 coarse salt, and 1/4 flax seed.
