Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Just spent some time looking at what Ameracaunas are supposed to look like. Mine don't look like any of the colors. Do I just have easter eggers?
Yeah, those are technically "Easter Eggers", meaning you couldn't show them as Ameracauanas. Our EE's were great layers and very nice overall. The main reason I got "real" Ams was because the real ones are kind of hard to find and I wanted to make some hatching eggs and chicks available locally. Got some BBS eggs in the incubator now.

Anyone know of any farm auctions out here? (Luzerne area) I'm willing to travel. When I lived in Vermont I used to go to an auction in NY that sold everything from farm equipment to animals. Haven't found anything here except product auctions. I'm considering making the trek up to ny one night just for the auction.

Also, if you are just looking for livestock and such, starting in the spring, tractor supply hosts livestock swaps every Saturday morning.

Do they know what breed they want to raise and show this year? I'd start with a list of "favorites" and ask people here for recommendations.

They like pretty much anything LF and things that are different (not as common). I prefer something that is a decent egglayer, so it can help pay for itself, lol. Something on the docile side like their Cochins.

I do not know where Luzerne is, but there is Belknap on Wednesdays in Dayton, and there is another in Homer Center...

I officially HATE winter.

Yesterday's ice and last night's snow coating did me in this morning. Went to take care of everyone and I was really being careful and I fell and slid about 5 feet down my hill. I was at the top of my hill and I had to try to stand back up and grab the chicken feed and make it down the rest of the hill without falling again. Of course I landed on my arthritic hip. Looks like I will be hobbling around for the rest of the day. Not looking forward to checking for eggs later.

I have 3 white leghorn pullets about 11 weeks old, I have had them for several weeks. I have several other breeds but these leghorns are just too flighty for me. Anyone near Kittanning interested in them? I would love to find a new home for them with someone who likes and understand this breed.

I hear ya! I fell twice yesterday. Landed on my already sore elbow and made it worse. It's the combination of nasty winters and getting older. Now I understand why so many people retire to FL. Yesterday that was feeling like a really good idea.
