Strangest hatch ever! The quail were day 17 last Saturday. They started hatching with 4 out Saturday morning. More on Sunday, more on Monday, a couple Tuesday. I was getting ready to toss the eggs today and there was another one out!

I tossed the rest of the eggs.

Guess it was the fact they got chilled in transport?

I don't know how well the fermented feed really works to be honest. Has anybody done body weights with it? I quit feeding it when I accidentally splashed some on my hand and it BURNED. IMHO, the fermentation makes it so acidic that the birds just don't eat as much. Kinda a cruel diet plan if you ask me. :/

It may not affect the birds as much as you think. In my parrots feed, there are hot peppers and hot pepper seeds. Birds do not have the "heat sensing" taste buds like we do.

I texted hubs late last night while he was at work to ask him to bring milk home in the morning. His response... "I think we need to get a cow" one minute later... "Wait that was a joke don't buy a cow! Forgot who I was talking to"

ROFL! Chickens are the gateway livestock you know...

That's amazing! It's so interesting to see how things turn out with nature!

So in other chicken news, I said to the hubby, "Well when we get a place with more land I want to raise meaties." No response. I said " You do know what they are, don't you?" He said "Yeah, birds you eat, I just don't want to have anything to do with them. " progress!!

:yesss:

Got some black oil sunflower seeds today. Tossed a pile of them in the run. I only have 6 girls, how much of this treat should I be giving them at a time? I don't want to overwhelm them.

Also, in other news, I am trying to help a friend with a work project, that I kinda also like. It involves going to http://www.happyacts.org/#challenge and entering their challenge. It's sort of a Pay It Forward concept. Just small acts, you don't have to give a kidney or anything to count. Sharing a joke with a friend to cheer them up, filling your neighbor's bird feeder, little stuff. #HappyActs is the twitter tag. I just joined Twitter to do this. I have no clue what I am doing there. Twitter confuses me.

Probably bald eagles. They wander this way. We've seen them in my neighborhood.

I had a couple come by and scope out my chooks last fall...they are wuses....got within 75yds they flew off...most red tails I need to get about 40yds before they get uncomfortable....coopers...have been 20yds away and flipped me the bird...very stubborn birds.....

Both beautiful birds...amazing that they are full siblings with how different they look. Genetics are complicated.
Troyer :

That pullet is just plain unacceptable for breeding.....I'll do you a favor and take her off you hands....lol.....

Hate to say this, but mine is normally at 65, except when I go to work and I'm asleep, then it's at 60 and 62.
Mine stays at 62 and I burn a wood stove...most times most parts of the house are comfy, nights like tonight....I'm stoking the wood stove to 'not burn the oil'....
