Just need to vent. Neighbor's dog came in our yard for the 2nd time and we have one dead chicken and one missing. I just raised them since chicks and it is very upsetting. Not even sure what to say to the neighbor.
 
SO SORRY ERYAN! I would start by asking them to keep dogs contained or next time you are calling animal control! They should at least offer to repay you for the value of a laying age bird, that nevers covers the emotional cost but its a start.
 
For those interested in POULTS! I had someone back out of this hatch (starting today) of about 20 poults, bourbon reds. We are located in Chester County, nearer to Lancaster County, and they are from our exhibition stock birds (took grand champion at pa farm show) please let me know if anyone is interested!

Sorry you lost the bird (s) and I wouldn't wait to call the dog warden. Even if there is nothing that can be done this time (though there probably is) then at least you have it on record and can prove a pattern of disobeying the law for any future occurrences. I understand not wanting to start neighborhood wars, but 2 offenses is enough, especially when it has now cost you your animals. Even though it is disturbing to do you need to get pictures of the scene, include any evidence of blood/feathers and document the wounds on the bird. If this has happened twice then it needs to stop now. You don't say if you spoke to your neighbor about the first incident. If you did, and it still happened again then I would allow the law officer to handle it. One of the long term members on here has a tag line on the bottom of her posts which I really agree with....

"your dog in your own yard is a pet, your dog in a neighbors yard is a predator". (I am paraphrasing the quote, I may have the wording off just a bit but the meaning is there)

My first coop was only good for months...not nearly sturdy enough for winter....or just get a shed and do the modifications yourself??? Unfortunately, I haven't seen any CL postings from the guy who made mine,,,,

You really need to put your neighbor's on warning....first let them know precisely what has occurred...then you should make it clear, that you intend to protect your flock if their dog appears on your property again...most likely they have no idea what their pooch is doing and will modify the behavior...if they are not cooperative, certainly document this in a certified letter...my two cents....
