I'm trying to picture what a landscape tie is vs a regular 4x4. Do you have a pic? Also, do you just sprinkle the crushed oyster shells around the perimeter?

Landscape ties are roughly 4x6 and rounded on two sides. Pressure treated.

They generally aren't the highest grade of wood, but great for the purpose. I've also used them as posts for grapevines. They do tend to warp and twist when used as posts. They are great around the bottom of the run as mentioned.

Last I bought some they were under $2 at Home Depot. That was about 3 years ago.

Edit to add: see stake's picture. Posted while I typed.

i got my hardware cloth on craiglist ave picked up in Lancaster and the other batch of cloth i got was a addiction in Lancaster
I have looked on craigslist a couple times. I will look again. I was planning to look at mud sales, but ugh snow again? It was hard to picture attending a mud sale like this.

I'm confused about the "addiction" part of what you said.

Would really like to know why the predators are being so terrible...never had problems like this before..I have my own theory but it is just a guess...
My brother gave me one of his small guns, not sure it will do the job though, especially with coyote...I think it is a 410, reminds of a little squirrel hunting gun.

Wing:

I am no expert...but a .410 shot gun has no legs....would only be effective under 50yds...at best....most shotguns would run out of energy or accuracy around 75yds...(unless scoped with a sabot)....you really need a strong varmit load like a .223, .243, or 25.06 ....my two cents...

This is my worst year for predators by far...they have to be pretty hungry to trespass at a home with a dog....maybe their normal food supply is low.....

Annjee: They are like 4x4 with rounded edges...they are alot cheaper than PT 4x4....I attach the bottoms with SS screws and large washers....my ground has alot of rock / shale and clay in it and is hard to dig through....if I thought I needed the oyster shells, I dig a small trench 2" deep maybe 4-6" wide and fill with oyster....then cover with dirt and sprinkle with the hose to seal the shells in place....if you have extra rock throw them on top too.....hope this helps.....

I will be looking for some Basque and perhaps some Cochin. But, I still need to build a run. Looking for a good place to buy hardware cloth.

At this point, have a couple of bantams, a barred rock (seems to be a cockrel), 3 SLW.

Anne:

I had a Basque junior roo that I re-homed...was good on all levels but not people oriented and imho would not have been able to tolerate a pen...
a great guardian, but very aloof with people....

i live in downingtown which is in Chester County that farm with silkies is in coatesville which is in Chester County

After I set these eggs, see what hatches. I definitely want to make sure my daughter has a silkie for her birthday, if we don't have a successful hatch.

I know Downingtown and Coatesville (work out of West Chester).
