@winc564
welcome, you could also try the 84 auction, they've been having some chicks come in, altho they don't tell you what kind they are, i bought 28 meaties there about three weeks ago reasonable, 2.25 each and they already were about three weeks old. but thats not to say there will be chicks there every monday when they have it.

The above answer is is good as any I can give. Anyone who hatched regularly knows fertile doesn't mean they hatch. And is it possible for a fertilized chicken to lay an infertile egg? I would some yes.

If he wants to know if you gaurentee hatch, of course no one can. I think anyone that deals with eggs regularly understands that.
i agree, you can't guarantee the eggs, who knows if that person knows what hes doing, even if he does, accidents happen, you can tell him what you've had luck with, sometimes its a crap shoot selling on csl

Thanks. I was thinking of trying to find someone close in PA.  I am a little reluctant to order chicks and have them shipped.  I also don't necessarily want an abundance of chicks. I am establishing my flock this year, but was thinking I would probably want to add a few layers each year to keep a consistent egg flow, yes?

I bought mine from Rural King in St. Clairsville, OH this year and I have had excellent luck as far as survival.

I'm also giving consideration to raising a few Cornish Xs for meat.  I'm not yet ready to do that though.
What breeds are you looking for?
I am going to experiment with freedom Rangers this year. I have people who will buy meat birds in a crop share set up as long as I don't use hatchery Cornish cross

I am also looking for about 6 large fowl Cornish to try my own hand at cross breeding if anyone has them

So, I figured..since I am having issues with being able to get the garden ready myself..why not let the girls help me out!! Have a small pile of debris to move & a few holes to fill & re-dig, I am almost "plant-ready"!:thumbsup
They look like they are loving it! I see from your pics that your neighbors are close by. Do they like the chickens? All my neighbors do! I already planted tomatoes in my Wall O Waters, they seem to be doing very well and I'm sure it will protect them if we get a surprise frost. I'm curious to see if I do get tomatoes earlier. Planted snap peas today too. Glad it's going to rain tomorrow. Sure helps me with germination! I have to brag here.... I was driving the other day and saw a man putting out items at his curb (for trash day, of course). I pulled a U turn because I thought I saw something, and I did! He had an Aerogarden by the curb! This model! http://www.aerogarden.com/aerogardens/aerogarden-spacesaver-6-black-1.html I figured i could at least use the bulbs if nothing else worked on it. Brought it home, and it worked perfectly! One man's trash is...yep. My treasure. Anyone else have any good trash picking stories?

Awesome find. What will you be growing with it?

I found an office chair that we rolled down the road from someone that was moving. I really needed a new office chair at the time and it was an awesome find for me.

In the first round, I grew basil, thyme and oregano, and where I didn't have enough "bracket" things to hold another plant, I stuck houseplant cuttings in there and they are starting to root successfully. I did screw up by not adding enough nutrient solution. You are supposed to add it every two weeks, but I didn't realize that and the plants went three months with their initial feeding. They did VERY well though, even with my screw up. In this batch, I am doing more basil (purple and cinnamon), some lettuce, a variety of snap pea called Half Pint that supposedly grows only 6-8" tall, and also, Purple Orach (which is a green similar to spinach). I love experiments! :yiipchick
