Does anyone know off hand the dosage of Tylan 50 for LF chickens? One of my boys seems to have an upper respiratory thing going on. I'm finding conflicting dosages. The one I was going to follow is 1/2 cc 2x daily sq injection for 5 days. Is that right?

What are the odds of 4 (wild) baby bunnies about3 3 weeks old will survive if discovered by a mess of elementary school kids? The kids didn't hurt them, but after being picked up and chased around, the bunnies wouldn't stay in the nest when they were put back. I'm not great at telling ages of kits, but they were older than mine (mine are a little over a week), eyes open and supposedly hopping around outside the nest before they were discovered.. but they are still really small, nothing like the 8-10 week bunnies at a pet store. Considering that children play in the playground where the nest was every day and they had yet to be found, my guess is they only just started venturing out.

Are they doomed? I called the school to let them know (it was in the middle of the school playground, discovered at a PTO meeting last night). Secretary said she'd have the maintenance guy go out when he got in... but what's he going to do, move them? without the mom present? They'll be goners for sure, no?
I just saw an article that stated that a mother rabbit WILL come back, even if her bunnies are handled. She usually only returns at night. If you have a way of checking, you might check then. If they are old enough to venture out, they are probably old enough to eat on their own. It is really, really hard to keep them alive in captivity.

X2 i the mother probably wasn't far away and will more than likely return. If they were out of the nest they are probably weaning already.

They look like they are loving it! I see from your pics that your neighbors are close by. Do they like the chickens? All my neighbors do!

I already planted tomatoes in my Wall O Waters, they seem to be doing very well and I'm sure it will protect them if we get a surprise frost. I'm curious to see if I do get tomatoes earlier. Planted snap peas today too. Glad it's going to rain tomorrow. Sure helps me with germination!

I have to brag here.... I was driving the other day and saw a man putting out items at his curb (for trash day, of course). I pulled a U turn because I thought I saw something, and I did! He had an Aerogarden by the curb! This model! http://www.aerogarden.com/aerogardens/aerogarden-spacesaver-6-black-1.html

I figured i could at least use the bulbs if nothing else worked on it. Brought it home, and it worked perfectly! One man's trash is...yep. My treasure. Anyone else have any good trash picking stories?
oh wow, what a great find for you!!! Trash day can be very fun..hahaha,
the house behind the bushes you are seeing, no-one is living there right now. The son of the woman comes up maybe once a week and "plays" with his welder stuff..makes noise, keeps up the yard-mows, airs-out the house..but is fine none the less.
only other neighbors are to our right..they are fine. They have quite a few dogs..so no issue with my birds...and I give them veggies and eggs sooo..yeah, they are okay too.
those birds are saving me a lot of work! no-doubt about that..hahaha

the house behind us is empty, except for the "son" that comes up to "tend " to things every now & then..also like to play with his welder thingy...the other neighbors are okay..they have a bunch of dogs, they keep them in their yard. We give them extra veggies and eggs so we are good. Great find on trash day!! Curb finds can be an awesome thing!! We have found many wonderful surprises along the way also.

YAY!! Got my first silkie eggs yesterday and went out this morning and got another! Now what do I do? Save them for pickled eggs, save them for her to hatch???
your options are endless...

....
Question, our power went out yesterday morning around 4:30. We got the generator up and running around 9 after another update from PPL that it would be several more hours until power was restored. Anyway, our incubator got down around 74 degrees before we got it plugged in and back up to temp. Are my eggs OK or did I lose the whole batch?
lots of people have had unfortunate issue such as this, that have lasted longer and they still had a decent hatch...it is amazing how much an egg can go through and still hatch out well.
As long as it is plugged in now and everything is back to "normal"..you should be good to go...just my little piece of gray matter

I wouldn't give up on them. Last year I had 2 sets of eggs in the incubator when the power failed for 3 days and the temp in the incubator got down into the 50's. Some from each set hatched, a couple of days later than scheduled, but I was surprised anything hatched.
see..i told ya!

And this might be your answer on where to get chicks.

Let the enabling begin!

Now what would ever make you think we were enablers???

I would save the first week or two for pickled eggs, many folks don't like first pullet eggs for hatching due to hiccups in the pullets reproductive system as it gets up and going.... many are fine but the risks are higher for duds or malformations, so giving it a bit before using them for broody hatches can help avoid extended broods. She may lay eggs for a couple of months before going broody anyway (or it could be next week) so it is a personal decision....

Ok guys I just watched a video on YouTube and cried! If you love chickens you have to watch bravest silkie in the world by AlbertaSilkies. It's such a sweet little video!
I have seen that one.... awesome story and hard to watch sometimes.... (I have a little white silkie who is so much like the one in the video, so made it very hard to watch her struggle!)

near impossible to keep them alive..for sure! ...if they are left-be for now, they should be fine...it takes a lot for momma to give up on them..at least that is what I have had experience with.

X's 3..hahaha

when i have to use this i have just given 1/2cc once a day for 3-5 days. ...should see improvement by 3 dys..
Sometimes if their symptoms aren't "too-bad"..I will try Vet RX first..it is a natural remedy..i always try these kind of things first, then if symptoms persist, go to the "have-to" treatments..
With the Vet RX , you should see improvement within 2-3 days...sometimes even within that very same day..it has happened with mine...nice to have only had to use the natural stuff!!
oh, and that injectable stuff..once you have it measured out...you can give it orally..you do not have to/shouldn't inject it..unless of course you know what you're doing..then i will be quiet.

sorry but just wanted to add ...
that keeping a close eye on your flock is THE most important thing you can do, by catching any signs..off-ness..symptoms in your birds early..you can, most of the time, keep any issues from becoming full-blown/overwhelming to your flock. ..being aware and treating at the onset is the key to health of any kept animal.
