Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I had a chick get scalped by an older bird back in December. I cleaned it out and blue coated it and he healed just fine. Maybe add a bit of neosporin. good luck!

I just do basic first aid type wound care, wash with warm, soapy water to remove any debris, look closely for bleeding or visible bone (so you have a good handle on it's exact severity) and then you can lightly coat edges with triple antibiotic (without the pain relief) if you want or just spray with blu-kot. there are other topical sprays available at tsc which are similar to the blu-kot but I am not familiar with it so can't comment.

Thank you! I cleaned it with warm soapy water and then sprayed the blu-kot on it... I got the aerosol but I'm now wishing I had gotten the pump spray because my hand is all purple now too! Found another injury on his wing, looks like he/she may have been in there longer than I thought or had a confrontation some other time that I never knew, cleaned and treated that one too.

I put him/her in a bin with a wire lid inside the turkey pen bc I was worried the other turkeys would pick on him, but I didn't want him to be all alone either. How often should I do the blu-kot?

I only do the blu-kot once a day and once the wound looks like it is dried and scabbing over I only apply it as needed to keep the blue color to deter interest from the other birds.

And FYI, the pump results in blue hands also! That stuff gets everywhere!

I just put another 60 eggs (21 turkey, 39 chicken) in the bator. That still leaves me an entire drawer empty & most of the hatching tray empty. Apparently I need more birds. These can't keep up with my new bator.

Working on it!

If it weren't for the idiots at USPS who clain I don't exist I would have less empty space. Entirely their fault! I talked to my mail lady today & she's going to make some calls about getting your shipping refunded & maybe the insurance too.

So does the dabber on a stick. 3 of my children, my bf & I are all scrubbing at Blu-kote stains right now. The bbw & roasters are very canibalistic & pick at EVERYTHING, so we are constantly painting white birds purple...along with ourselves.

I think I only did it once when Wynter got scalped. Maybe twice when the color started to fade. He went right back in with everyone else. I didn't sperate him at all. He did all have his mama but she wasn't very protective.

It's been a long time since I gave everyone an update on Wynter. He's recovered from the hole in his crop completely and targeted bask in where his chest was bald. He did lose most of his toes due to the frostbite. I think he has 1 on 1 foot and two on the other, the poor guy. He must've had that hole in his crop for longer than I thought he did. He's nowhere near the size he should be and is getting passed up in size by the 12 week olds that he's in with. His ankles are also fused in place somehow so when he walks, he looks like he's walking on stilts. Great news for him though. I've found someone to adopt him where he'll live out the rest of his life, spoiled rotten. He's going to be living with a bunch of Silkies :) I'm so glad I found him a good home. It's hard enough to rehome roosters add it is, let alone a handicapped one!

PM me your address, I'll send ya some.

Help! We were out all day (dentist appointments down in the city) and just got home and went out back to feed the birds

I have also Blu Koted myself with the pump, gloves are key. If you still want her away from the group, but not lonely, pick out a poult of the same size, one that seems lower in pecking order to keep her company, this will help with reintroducing her too.

@Fisherlady, why only the edges of the wound with triple antibiotic?

Thanks Blarney!

I ended up setting a total of 22 turkey & 44 chicken yesterday. I'll save up another week's worth & do it again. I think everyone is finally getting back in gear after the move. I've had 5 turkey eggs from 6 hens twice the past week. I usually get 3-4. So they are working on getting in full swing. The chickens gave me 15 yesterday & 12 the day before from 23 hens. I know 2 new ones for sure aren't laying, because they are in quarantine & can't lie to me. 2 of the chicken hens in the peafowl pen aren't laying either because I only get 1 little cream egg from there each day. The other girls seem to be taking turns on what days they lay. Hopefully everyone will be in gear soon.

Sent round 2 today. See if this set makes it.

If you get tired of turkey, return the favor. :)

I got a bit of overspray from the pump yesterday. Just looked like a weird rash (I was waiting with a punchline if someone noticed at work, but I work with a bunch of oblivious IT people). It's almost completely gone this morning.

My nieces think the color is pretty and want to blu-kote one of our white layer hens to add some color to the coop. Anyone done that before? It would give a tie-dyed effect I think. It seems like that are worse things you could do to a hen.

I was covered in BluKote this week too. My turkeys were pecking the vent of 2 of their turkey buddies. Unfortunatly those 2 didn't make it. Now I am down to 4 turkeys.

I don't know what it is with this group of turkeys. They love to peck the vents.
