since one of my girls is Bridget, this was very appropriate.

If you get your sand in bulk it can be any finer type sand, some construction type sand has a lot of larger gravel pieces in it, my preference is a sand with approx at least 75% fine grain and less than 25% small gravel (smaller then size of a pea).  This makes it easier for me to clean/sift. Finding a source for dry sand is often difficult.

If you are only doing a small amount you can get bagged play sand at Lowes for about $4 / # 50 bag which I really like to use..

Thank you! Is it the construction type that I need to avoid? Someone mentioned respiratory issues with some sand . I want to avoid this type.

When I stopped at my local TSC yesterday, there were no chicks of any kind and they had already put away the chick bins. There was one bin out - not labeled - so I don't know if it hadn't been cleaned up yet or if they just had it out in case they got a late shipment.

Mine still had chicks yesterday. But I know they were wrapping up soon.

All:

Just picked up two Colombian Wyandottes at Pickering...they asked me for my address and phone....seem the state AG wants documentation on who has chooks...guess the AI thing has everyone concerned...hope there's no outbreaks in Chester Co....

I have x6 4wk olds going out side tomorrow to meet the big girls...and will have supervised free ranging for the crew....expect the roos to swap some paint....should I break them up or just intervene if one gets too beat up???

I have my three one day olds......

a broody on a handful of eggs

and and incubator with two dozen set....

Oh MY! That's a lotta chicken math ya got going on there....

They are probably offended by the idea of someone killing a chicken . . .

When my kids were young (like 15 years ago) we were raising rabbits for show and meat. I was reading chat boards and some were flaming others for eating rabbits (like it was dolphin or something - yum?). I became so irritated that I began a "where your food comes from" campaign with my kids : See that hamburger? ... that's from a cow... bacon... pig, etc. It's ludicrous the way some people behave.

It's a wonderful day when I can wake up and make delicious homegrown (laid?) eggs for breakfast and then putz around in my garden getting my hands dirty for a half hour before work. Happy Weekend!

My tomatoes that were in the Wall O Waters are almost two feet high and have flowers already. Those things are worth every penny. The tomatoes that were planted in them were mail order, so that is even more impressive. When they arrived they were small and not doing well from the trip. Will try to get some garden pics later because we all like to be nosy and see what everyone else is doing... Or is that just me?
