broody hens will often eat any egg they feel is bad... it helps make sure the nest doesn't get soiled.

That's amazing how they can tell. I know my broody ate one egg early that was squashed, I t bought she was cleaning up. But another egg was missing, and I wasn't sure why. Thanks!

:love

Don't ya love how broody hens get them right out acting like big birds when they are still so tiny! Just adorable!

I was surprised by this! It's just so amazing!

Yesterday my husband says to me, "When are the other eggs supposed to hatch? Usually he doesn't care much, but the hen with he chicks is just too cute!

r the two lighter rocks in this pic Roos or not

Color alone is not a reliable way to sex barred rocks, the hatcheries have the breed way to far off...
But the tail feathers on the one on the right are looking like a roo, can not see the other clearly....

I was up most of the night with a sick baby. While she ate her finger food, I was drinking coffee. I went to grab my mug, and grabbed her apples with prunes instead. I was a micro second away from eating it!

Unless it is four - months-old, that is a boy.

I agree. I have only had one BR, but she didn't show that much wattle till after she was laying.

How do you tell gender in turkeys? My bourbon red poults are around 14 weeks now and other than one being a bit smaller (had a couple injuries that set it back), they all look exactly the same to me. Hoping I didn't get 4 of the same gender! I can try to get a picture later, nursing baby down for a nap at the moment.
