My best advice would be to bring her into a 'hospital' cage or private brooder area... having her there for a couple of days will give you time to offer her special treats like scrambled eggs, hulled sunflower seeds and plain yogurt (or any other favorites of your choice) with quiet time you can better observe her behavior for subtle signs of trouble and you will be able to watch her poo for problems... this will also give you the chance to give her medication without concerns about other flock members if you decide to use medicine but it will give her quiet time to conserve her energy if she is fighting off a bug.

Auro:

My answer to all medial questions is scrambled eggs....give your girl a personal meal...if she's got game it will energize her....my two cents....

:thumbsup
I like the warm bath idea....it is amazing how much they enjoy them.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to catch her here in a little bit and give her a warm bath. She's been out free ranging all morning with everyone but her crop still looks and feels empty. She did run over and get some scratch and bread crumbs earlier when I threw some out but I'm sure a bath and some eggs might be nice for her. She's a rather fat chicken so maybe she put herself on a crash diet lol. Hubby picked get up the other day and was like, whoa, this one's ready. He knows better though. Maple has always been my favorite girl and has a lifetime pass.

I think Maple is enjoying her spa treatment lol. She's slowly munching on this egg but she is eating it :)

Well, Maple only ate maybe half of this egg. She's alert and sitting here wrapped in a towl but that's it. I'm not sure what else to do for her. I'm going to put her in a crate with a heat lamp until she's dry and go from there I guess.

ETA: I'm hoping she doesn't have egg peritonitis. Her abdomen is a bit swollen. I'm going she just had a big and she's not laying because she's molting. She just apt finished off the egg I have her and is dying under the heat lamp now but she's just kinda standing there. She's not laying down or relaxing, just standing in one spot. She's pooped twice. One big and runny with a few little bits of grass in it. The other was small and watery with just a bit of white stuff in it. (Sorry for poop details but others know more than I do)

You can see both poops in the picture. I pulled the towel out with the big poop on to be washed. No signs of worms or anything like that.

I hope she is ok and comes home safely!

It was someone's cat. We saw it stalking the girls this morning, so when I went out today, I peeped up the broody and her chicks in a playpen with a cover on top. They were not happy but at least they are not kitty food.

Thank you :hugs ... I miss her so much, she was my buddy. :(

That's a really good point about the not feeling good. The only time mine need baths is when my bantam cochins get poop stuck to their bums from all the feathers they have back there. A few weeks ago I noticed my rooster looking like he was trying to push out an egg... I picked him up (he didn't even try to get away, which was a red flag) and I checked out his bum. It was completely blocked with poop! I was so surprised and felt so bad. He fought so hard trying to get out of the laundry tub, but I eventually got all of the poop off. He thought he looked handsome after his bath, trying to get with all the ladies

I hope she feels better.

Went to the beach for the day today, and sat out a wee bit too long. Just asked hubby to paint the backs of my thighs with egg white. How romantic! But it does work for burns, so I'm hoping it will do just as well for sun burn.

Okay everybody, sick chicken question. One of my Aunts newer chickens is not doing well. She said it has its eyes closed most of the time and is not eating or drinking. She has been dropper feeding it water, and I suggested some sugar in the water to maybe pep it up a little bit. She said it will stand and walk a few steps, but I don't think it can see where it is going obviously. She said it is hanging it's next kind of funny on either side also, occasionally. Any thoughts? She has been putting some bacitracin/ neosporin around its eyes to in case it's an infection of some sort.

I hope everyone is staying safe today. Crazy weather we are having. Allentown has had tornadoes and down the road from me there are mudslides closing the roads and roads closed due to flooding. If I hear someone say we are still in a drought I will punch them. We have so much rain lately.
