Don't be sorry. I was worried that Pete was a girl and that meant the other 3 were boys. So he is still a he. I hope. I do think I have it right. Ruth looks like a half sized female New Hampshire, DupliCate and Zippy both have the stance and tailfeathers so far of female Marans, and Cate, well, she doesn't have a comb to speak of but she has the same tailfeathers and stance as the other 2.

Dheltzel is a but further east, but he is always hatching and I'm sure the Chicken train can help you out.

Sure seems that way, doesn't it? Actually, my last Marans of the season just hatched last Saturday. I'm going to keep hatching the other breeds for another few weeks. It's sure going to be tough to shut down the incubator now that the CCL's are finally laying.

Hey everybody! Does anyone know what kind of turkey this is? Sorry for the bad photo, I was inside a store and this was the best I could do. Bird paradise in
Burlington, Nj. Largest bird store in the east coast I believe. Fun even if you don't have parrots, they have a lot on display.

Yes, he is a Royal Palm. Reminds me, I need to go play with my Royal Palm poults, I want some really tame ones and the few older ones we have didn't get handled a lot and are kind of wild around me. I really makes a difference if they get handled when young.

Sure seems that way, doesn't it? Actually, my last Marans of the season just hatched last Saturday. I'm going to keep hatching the other breeds for another few weeks. It's sure going to be tough to shut down the incubator now that the CCL's are finally laying.

I may have a Marans or two hatching tomorrow. Not that I'm excited or anything! e. I remember telling you that I wasn't sure my Bantam Cochin was going to actually be a mother. She has been fantastic, a natural! The two hens are still cooperating and raising the chicks together. They all sleep in the same nest box still! Those bantam Cochin chicks are the cutest ever! Maybe it's because they stay small and fluffy? Any who, the other broody is still sitting on all 14 eggs! I asked my hubby to guess how many would hatch. He says 9, I say 11. I wonder if the other two mothers might share and take some of the new chicks under their wings?

I am headed to Knobels tomorrow, so I won't be home until late. I'll only be able to think about my broody Mama, and if she's got any peeps under her... Okay enough rambling, sorry.

It's amazing how friendly and affectionate they can get if you handle them a lot. Adam is my little lap buddy. I can't sit down anywhere outside without him invading my lap lol. The pictures are from the other day, sitting in the garden. Today, he snuggled up on me while I was lounging in the hammock reading. He won't move until I make him either lol

Oh yes. He was never destined for the dinner table anyway lol. He's the only Bourbon red from a different line than the others so he was spoiled from the beginning. Boy or girl, he was destined to stay on as a breeder

I have 2 or 3 hens that will come up an lay their neck against my arm when I come in the pen. They look up at me adoringly and then squat down and start purring. Then one of the tame toms comes over to take advantage of the situation, LOL.

I love finally having a truly tame tom also. The biggest black mottled comes right up and puffs up his chest to impress me. I can pet him or pick him up without any protest at all.

I had a very productive day. Wormed, vaccinated and trimmed hooves on 9 goats, and cleaned out their pen. Feeling pretty good.

Are your goats dairy, meat, or pets? Do you like owning goats? I have heard mixed things.

I LOVE the goats! They are fairly easy keepers, once you get them fenced and very personable and entertaining. Ours are miniature goats and we milk them.

@Stake: Yes, that lil dark one is quite the looker, the difference in brown shading was not as pronounced when she was born. She is finishing out nicely and we are keeping her.

@wlrabbit.. Coop looks great, and what a score on the wood!

@MC: GoodNESS!! Looks like a bear pulled back that hardware clothe. Can't imagine how else it would be bent like that.
