Do they have a minimum number of chicks you can get?I got my girls from Meyers. I caught the chicken fever but would like to buy closer to home.;)

Popping in quick, the Halloween Hal is almost over,

I started a new thread if anyone has time time to help out new hatchers or would like to learn about incubation, or hatch with others can join us in the incubation section....

I am hoping to get a bunch of seasoned hatchers on the thread so we get some good conversation and some great help
and so that there is someone available in a timely manner should they need them. Not sure it will work out, but its worth a shot!

So glad to see more chicken owners near here.

I even haven't have my chickens yet. I plan to get some fancy chicks from dheltzel in the spring through chicken train. Auroradream26 should have some very nice chicks available in the spring too. There are some other BYC members may also having chicks. Myers Poultry Farm at South Fork is the nearest large hatchery to Altoona. I personally only consider some reliable breeders or large hatchery to avoid heath issues.

If you only have room for 2 more, you may want to wait until next year for new chicks. When your older chickens are molting, your young ones will continue to lay eggs for you. I plan to add two more chickens every year myself.

No they don't have a minimum but they don't ship either. You can find them advertising on the pittsburgh area craigslist. The 7 birds I got off them have all been great with no health issues at all.

Plenty clear to me....I had one fly in about a month ago......and a pair last year....eagles are wusses though....they run at the drop of a hat,,,now a coopers hawk will sit in a tree 10yds away and flip you the bird......
