I set my eggs from @dheltzel today. First time that I've EVER had a full tray. This should be interesting at hatch time lol.

This officially puts my cabinet to over half full lol

Thank you :) I'll be separating them in baskets in my hatcher and if too many make it to lockdown, I'll use two seperate hatchers to keep everyone figured out :)

We try to not pick favorites....but it rarely works, it seems every hatch has a 'greeter'....that one chick who is first to run out from under mama to see what is going on, the first to beg, the first to jump on our hand or foot to get food or attention. Those 'greeters' are hard to resist and usually first to get a name.
Well said! Brownie is the greeter! And I'm telling myself that these girls can change a lot so don't pick favorite...yet.

You're like me, I see -- the ones that are the most difficult are the ones that I get the most attached to! Unless it's a bad roo... Then we become close in other ways.
Exactly. The more time you spend on them, the closer you attached.

Thank you

I get it now! For me, the Rees CCL girl has very different color from the other chipmunk chicks though. I don't know if all of them are like that or not.

My Rhodefelder girl is huge comparing to her brooder mates. I'm curious to see how big will your pure bielefelders be.

The few pure Bielefelder chicks I've hatched have not been significantly bigger than the others, that I could tell. The Sexlinks are smaller for sure, because the pullet eggs they are hatching from are small. The Rhodefelders do seem larger, though the eggs the hatch from are normal size. Hybrid vigor? Or maybe they just have more "fluff" and are not really that much bigger. I suppose I should weigh some to see.

All the Legbars I hatch have a lot of variation, including the Reese line. The chicks I got from GFF were like that too, I even emailed them and sort of accused them of cheating me out the number of pullets I paid for, but sure enough, they were pullets, the big head spots (or lack thereof) seem to be 100% reliable. I've seen some variation in the Rhodefelders too, but never in the pure Rhodebars, Biels, or Welbars.

I use baskets too, sometimes having to add dividers. In the styrobators where the height didn't allow for tall baskets, I used to use mesh laundry bags (with zippers for washing "delicates"). I would put the whole basket w/egg into the bag and zip it up. Worked well, and of course the bags are washable.

I often have 6 or more different breeds with wild-type chicks (chipmunk stripes) hatching at once. It can get confusing, that's why I keep detailed notes on the computer about what is where.

Now that is beautiful sight! How many eggs total?

Thank you :) 90 on that tray and a few more on another but only like 6. I can't remember exactly lol

The laundry bag is an excellent idea. I know that there's at least one of those laying around here. They may be 2.time to dig through hubby's army stuff lol.

I use the hatch a batch app and keep my detailed notes on that plus I keep a hard copy in a notebook to keep track of hatch percentages, quitters and clears.

What a lovely sight :love :drool sending good hatching vibes!

I picked up new layers for our mixed breeds egg pen today! Ended up with;
7 RSL (supposed to be 6 but pretty sure one of my Amberlinks is just a light colored RSL)
1 Amberlinks
4 EE
2 RIR
2 Cali greys
1 BO
1 BR
2 buckeyes
1 Gold laced cochin bantam (idk how this happened lol, was supposed to be a third RIR. I was in in a hurry so I let the employees pick out the chicks so I could get them home and in the brooder. So now I'm missing an RIR and an Amberlink. Fingers crossed it's at least female)
