They are beautiful! My husband is anti duck but if he ever changed his mind, I think I know what breed :)

Since I'm new to the chicken thing I'm trying to figure out bedding/litter for in the coop. Being that we are in PA I want to plan ahead for the winter months too. Im leaning toward pine shavings or sand. Pine shavings can get expensive though, right? Sand on the other hand could work, but what about in the winter when it gets cold...will the sand get cold and stay cold? Don't want the girls to be cold. What bedding do you recommend for this area?

I always use pine shavings and do the deep litter method. So far no issues here. I've considered using and but since my coop is off the ground, it would most likely be too cold for them in the winter. From what I understand, the rule of thumb with sand is that it either must have an insulated floor under it or be on the ground.
