Hey there, a second howdy....Blarney hasn't been around in a while...do you know if everything is OK?

I have some wonderful news to share

Roughly 6 weeks ago, I found one of my silkies in the garage brooder suddenly suffering from crook neck. Her little head would bend down and twist upside down and she could not pick it up. I brought her to my small brooder in the house and for at least 2 weeks, I gave her selenium and vitamin E every day. I even made a neck brace for her out of some old mattress foam we had laying around. I would put it on her during the day and take it off at night. After a few weeks of treatment and no improvement, I was ready to give up on her. She could still eat and drink somehow so I told my husband, when he gets time, to go ahead and put her down. We were super busy and since she was still eating and drinking it wasn't a priority. I stopped bothering with the vitamins but I did put the neck brave on her and just left it on. It's been about 4 weeks since I put that brace on her neck and didn't take it off again. Over the past week or 2, I've noticed that her head has been up....a lot. Today, I finally removed her brace. It's looking like she no longer needs the support

I'm going to watch her over the next 2 weeks and if she has no issues, she will be moving outside to the main coop with my young polish chicks. I've very excited that she seems to have recovered

Awesome!

:thumbsup

I absolutely love the 'morning rush'..... everyone rushes out to the far edges of the yard, then come to a screeching halt, turn and race back to my feet because they suddenly realize I might have goodies that they just passed up!

:gig

I miss the rushing out of the coop in the morning! Always fun to see the order of who comes out first, second, etc.

ISO...hi All...I'm looking to expand my flock and am hoping to purchase pullets who are colored egg layers ( Arucanas, Americanas, Easter eggers, Marans, Australorp or welsummers). I'm in Northampton County. I've not had much luck locally and I guess I can order from my pet chicken but I'd rather try here first. We currently have one white Leghorns and 3 RIR. I'm only looking for 1-2 birds. Thank you so much for reading

Hello! I can't help you, but just being friendly. :D

Hi,
I looked at my email and at this thread. No one has shown any interest in my 3 coops. (post 61128)   Since I can't post them for sale both here and on Craigslist, I will be moving the sales to Craigslist Pittsburgh, Pa. Also maybe Altoona, PA Craigslist, we will  see. I finished prepping them today and got the  livery barn style coop and raised coop separated from their runs. The livery barn coop comes with a extremely sturdy run. The raised coop comes without a run.  Took pics of all of them to post on CL.
Thanks again and have a nice day!

Oh Karen, if only you weren't so far., I'll be needing a coop in a couple of months, but I'm in SE pa.

Hiya! Do you still breed the banty langshans? I may want a couple more when we find a new place. I love the girls I got from Rose, they lay well and go broody fairly frequently. Not that I would need that or anything...

Congrats! Your nursing skills have paid off. I'm glad you'll be able to keep her now.

Even as I was power washing the cecal poops encrusted on my back porch, I still missed my girls. I could have never cleaned the porch or done work to the yard with them here though. I'm just so happy someone could take them for me for a while. :)

If you can tell who is coming out in what order, you either didn't have enough birds, or they moved very slow!

I thought the babies were going to be first this morning. When the door got opened, it was all too fast to tell!
