Harrisburg area. Getting 5 chickens in August.

Greetings! What can we talk you into?

I went into the coop last night, expecting to find 8-10 cockerels. I caught six, and one got away as I was putting him into the holding pen. Since you can't catch a chicken running loose, he will live for now. Depending on how today goes, I may do him tomorrow.

I am going to get through this. I know I am.
Anyway, I did get all the boys. I am surprised. I also still don't know how many chickens I have. That needs to change. "If you can count your chickens, you need more" is funny, but I have under thirty (or is it forty?) now.
Anyway, wish me luck learning, and Fisherlady luck teaching me, and resisting the urge to slaughter me!

Good luck! The hard part is putting them down. After that, it's a fairly simple process. I know you'll get through it!

I like the rule that if you know how many you have, then you need more lol. I honestly have no clue how many chickens I have at the moment so i must be good lol

Canning in June isn't much fun

so far I managed to get 35 quarts of potatoes done with 7 more in the canner now. Only 14 more bags to peel, cube, and can.

Goodness! I began with cutting them up, but in the end, I left them as big as possible. Less work, and they don't soften as much. I used some for french fries. I did still cut smaller pieces to pack around the huge chunks.
