Cookie Update::

Cookie's lump looks a little more normal colored today, but it was still swollen, so we preformed a mild operation. We used a sterile lance and poked it open in the center, we were able to squeeze a small amount of serous discharge from it, that was slightly blood tinged. Not enough fluid came out to even change the size of it, it appears to be tissue swelling and not a compartment filled with anything. Oh and the liquid that came out was completely odorless. So I guess I just watch the swelling???

Anyone ever have any chicks that if you squat down outside, they run over and chill out under you? My two blue silkies that I picked up at the swap have taken to doing that. The one more than the other will come running and just lay down under me lol. They're starting to get the little polish chicks doing it too. It's so stinking cute!

Hello all sorry to interrupt. Just wondering if any one would like 3 PQ silkie Roos. They are 4 months old. They have disrupted the harmony in my flock. Not to mention, have my children distressed. Our flock originally consisted of all hens. We purchased st run silkies, and knew we would have a few roos. We did not anticipate the blood hurling screams, and blood shed associated with have them. I guess roos are early to mature, and are trying to "love" or "woo" the females they grew up with. They grab the hens necks so ferociously and pull and shake their heads,often drawing blood. And those poor hens screech so loudly. My children cry, because they feel the girls are being hurt and bullied. The roos are not aggressive toward us however. The were respectful of my mature hens but now they have taken to flipping them off their roosting bars. We are all distressed by this. I don't have it in me to cull them. So I was hoping to rehome them.

I am sorry that you are having troubles. Please know that blood shed is not normal. A hen might squawk, but she is alright. I hope you can find a new home for your birds. Or, the courage to process them.

I did try to tell my kids this is normal in the animal kingdom ,and that it would "hopefully" settle down. But they are all white and once my kids saw blood on their necks they started crying. There seems to be a lot of feather pulling in the process. I think maybe pulled blood feathers are the blame. I don't know....this is all new to me. Littles go out to check on them all the time. I put the girls in my garden to separate them. So much for my produce but if it put my children and hens at ease its worth it. Praying to rehome. My husband and I don't have it in us to process.
