Here's my trio! NHR's (Pepper & Ginger) are 13 weeks old, and White Silkie (Tiny!) is 17 weeks old. I love them so!

@troyer I just got a text this morning from a friend (with whom we rehomed our cubalaya pullet) that read: Mrs. Cubalaya (we named her Chiquita) just hatched her second clutch yesterday. She's a great Mom. First clutch were her own eggs crossed with the Marans roosters I also got from you. (AnneintheBurbs) This clutch is mostly Red Sexlinks crossed with an Araucana Rooster, but a couple eggs are her own with the Araucana.

I never knew she was potential broody! This was one of the chicks I hatched with my first broody. So yay team she is living a happy life. Hope you're not upset she is interbreeding.

Very nice. She should be an excellent broody as she comes from a line of excellent broodies.

Sure. It's easy peasy. Braid 'em yup three at a time after they have dried. Hang them in a cool place indoors; I use old school S hooks. Onions last forever. Just use up any imperfect ones first, and keep the perfect onions for storing.

Update on the broody bunch. They hatched 4 of 4 Wheaten Ameraucanas. I only have 1 hen, so every egg I can hatch is great. Ended up with 3 girls and a boy from the 8 Bielefelder eggs. I'm going to take them some more eggs and see if they get the same success with ones that have been incubated for a while first. They might just get the hatch chicks the rest of the summer!

"Normal" (LF) broodies are quick to jump up and take care of any chicks they hatch. These bantams seem more inclined to just sit together and incubate/hatch eggs. None of them were trying to get the chicks to eat or drink, which is fine because I took all the chicks to a brooder. Gave them a peacock egg to replace the chicks, LOL.

Ready to start our next great adventure! We honestly probably won't have any bees til next spring unless a swarm moves in but we're still excited The guy that we got them off of was very nice and explained a lot to us about keeping them and caring for them. This should be really cool

So glad to see you back in the saddle....your peaches are great, my two dwarfs(elberta) only set a few dozen each and the squirrels got them, birds have pillaged 2/3 of my blueberries and most of the blackberries....

on the bird front finished a 7day tetracycline run and all is well....my broody has given up though....second time this year.....and she has hatched some before....so, 9 viable CCLs going into lockdown...(last time I went 1for5, and the only hatch was a boy (go figure).....

Oh those darn birds!!
I am going to get some pics for you to show the lengths in which we have had to go to keep them at bay...they hit our red raspberries( most of the variety I have I had received from 'Sharron')..we have only been able to enjoy one or two when we go out and walk the yard..yeah, that bad...but we declared all out war on them with our blackberries!!! We had already taken measure with our strawberries, learnt the hard way the first year we had them

The birds haven't been an issue on the peaches, they have actually been a great benefit. They are keeping the insects at a manageable level. We do not use any pesticides and deciding to do this can make keep critters in control a bit of a challenge. I have learnt the value of Epsom salt. It is truly amazing the issues this one ingredient can take -on!!

Glad to hear your girls are on the mend..sorry your broody is not cooperating, she apparently didn't get the memo

Has anyone heard from Ray lately? (Chique Chicks) We were going to meet half way so I could unload ..err...I mean graciously gift them with my Black English Orp cockeral, but not answering pms for a week now? Is he/she ok? Should I hold the baby or work on finding another home?

(Boris is on the left--picture is over two weeks old and he is April 30 hatch. He is huge and round now.)

thank you! good to hear this does actually work!...I was searching 'pinterest'...yes, i know very dangerous..many have entered that realm never to return

...anyway, saw how some people are able to braid large bunches of them..it looks awesome and doesn't take up as much space. I am just going to have to practice the technique to do this...i shouldn't have too many with braiding. I was hairdresser, but some times the simple things are the most challenging!!

welp, as in the post above...you know what the dealeo' is about last year..so no..I didn't get to start the bee quest yet...but it is there in the future at some point. Have more pressing things right now we are waist deep into.
The dogs are great...still trying to have babies....ana, of course would have to be a princess and not like to cooperate with the whole..'this is what has to be done to have pups'...Ceasar is a trooper about it all..gets all 'love sick'...literally...poor guy. we are discussing another male, one a bit younger maybe to handle the job

Every new adventure had to be put on hold from the issues that arose...so, no goats, b
We put up 4 meaties this spring. I got 2- barred rock while we were there too(calico creek)..hee-hee, they are doing well.Still have the 6 girls. 2 BLRW, 1BLW, 3 marans..2 of which were from you, Cordon had hatched them.
So, 8 girls total.
We are hoping to finally start with rabbits this coming spring...hoping. We didn't expand on the animals much, but the yard is another story.

hahaha....keeping entertained, with the harvest . cooking..canning, you know, all the really fun stuff!!

Missed you!! looking forward to adding to our "recipe" list, found a bunch of really good stuff!!!!!
