hahaha, in total agreement with you there.Ya I don't own any white egg layers either I personally don't care for white layers. That's kind of the crappy end of the deal though to process them but I would hate that then if they wanted to get rid of it or something because I would get attached to it. I like my animals more than I do people.
so sorry of your bird troubles...they are, well, they are chickens. nothing more to be said.If you want kilt action, LMP, come with me to the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem the last weekend of September. It is a free open festival. Lots of men in kilts!
Silly big birds won't go over the screen I have up so the little ones don't escape. Except Ruth. She goes out and lays where she **** well wants to in the people area and then waits for me to open the gate to get back into the chicken side. THEN she hops the screen. And stays in the run with the other 8 grownups. Stupid birds. I hope those 2 grow fast. This is ridiculous.
@Chaos18 ...don't believe her, look she is laughing. I have fallen for that before...took me 4 + months of therapy to recover..
Oh happy times!!
I was out feeding the flock this morning when I spied a white object out in the "field"...its was a tiny white egg!!!! My first egg from my 6 pullets!! I think I know which of the two leghorns laid it. Now to get her to lay in the coop!! Since its tiny I put it in a laying box to help encourage laying inside! There are two golf balls in separate boxes too.
Check craigslists in your area and within two hours. I saw someone earlier this summer looking to rehome their leghorns. My neighbor has four and they lay great and good size eggs. I usually eat their eggs over mine. Our brown eggs are smaller. I prefer to crack three eggs not four. We got five leghorn chicks from feed mill this spring. Unfortunately due to a raccoon attack we lost 3 of the five.

Oh happy times!!....if you need a pair, i have one in our backyard!!
I know where you can get some pure SPR eggs for her ;-)
oh my gosh..there are doing this in pairs now!..hahahha, love this 'helping hand' community!!Put some fake eggs under Daffodil and I will bring you some newly hatched chicks next Sat to let her raise.
That is the surest way to break a broody, right?
awesome!!! Thank you!!wow. Looks good. Looks like mine look. And mine don't even always seal up like that with a pop.So if they seem to unseal no worries. ..they are still ok. The only thing not ok is if they get mold or spoil on top.mine only did that one time and that was when the lids weren't tight. The lid may even bulge up. But it's ok. It's still good. I will try to see if I can find out how long before it's really good. May be 6 or 10 weeks I forget. I just let mine sit for a long time before I try it. And it lasts a long time for me. Best wishes. And yeah super easy. That's why I like itand doesn't hurt to eat it before it's ready just won't taste as saurkrouty. I don't know what to tell you to watch for But if they unseal don't panic. That's what they do they instead will even bulge up. Cuz of the fermenting process. If they did seal up hopefully it's not too tight that they don't do the fermenting. But if it is then you will have canned cabbage which is also good
I don't remember if mine ever sealed up or not. I Just follow directions and let it sit
keep me posted on how it's going
hope so much that you enjoy it! We sure do. Just thought of more so I hope I'm adding and not double posting. ..... your rings may get all yucky and rusty. This is common also. And you may want to put cardboard under those jars. Sometimes it kinda seeps out as it ferments. I think mine only did that the one time when my lids weren't turned on tight.
You are such an enabler! Hopefully she takes them. Only like 3 though, lol. These are welcome to be extra from the others that you're bringing lol
the community picnic is today...it is going to be interesting. not too sure how many will show. can't blame anyone for not wanting to be out in this...nice thing is air conditioning in the firehall..bad thing-everyone will be in there!!It's 84° here right now. It's going to be a hot one. We have a family reunion outside today tooAt least there's a creek for the kids to play in. I know my feet will be in it lol![]()
x's 2!!The longer you wait, the harder it is.
Zsa Zsa GaborGlad it's you! I know I wanted broody girls. They are great! But I need to break anymore for a while. At the very least, I plan on separating the SPR when the (OMG she doesn't have a name yet!
) oldest starts laying. By the time her eggs are big enough to hatch, I will know that only another SPR has been mating her.![]()
Okay, I need to get a name for her. Aretha Franklin? Janice Joplin?
oh...i am too lateVINCE GILL AND AMY GRANT!![]()

Thank you!
Now, he doesn't get to be the main breeder. Should I wait to name the main breeder Vince Gill later, or just name this one, and let Amy be a ... Unsavory woman and mate with a rooster that isn't her husband?
i thought this was way too funny, cause you standing there and your girl just plopping down .."all hail"...I walked out to the coop earlier today and Tiny walked up to the door, looked at me and squatted allll the way down while I was about a foot away.
