It is simpler than it sounds, all the corners can be done as straight joints rather than having to join anything with 45 degree angles. The corner brace pieces made out of plywood will make it much sturdier. Hanging the chain link gates just require a sturdy post to attach the hinge side to and a piece of scrap pipe on the latch side for the gate latch to dropover... Here are some pictures of various interior and exterier coop doors we have here.

Love seeing the coop builds! One day I will have my dream coop instead of our current shanty build!
I built my own run door without really any building experience. The coop was our first building project. I just used 2 x 4s and connected them together using those hammer in spike strip things (mending plates). It's been extremely sturdy and has held on prefecture for the last 3 years.

Thought everyone would like to see the little survivor today. I decided to name her Mira for miracle. She's much, much more alert today (though she doesn't look like it in the first picture) and feeling a bit better. Her head does stink though. Is that normal? I noticed it when I was flushing it. She's had that eye open all day :) You can probably see that it's stretched back and there's a wrinkle under it but it still works :)
:hugs You are amazing for taking such great care of sweet little Mira (love the name) she's looking SO much better! :)
Wow! What a busy day! I spent all morning converting our carport into a turkey/chicken shelter. Temporary, of course... I zip-tied the hell outta that thing to make sure that it is as predator proof as I could make it. Tomorrow , I will work on improving it more. I drove down to pick up turkeys and chicks from @dheltzel. I hope I can give all of them the treatment and protection they deserve. I was expecting smaller chicks, which was silly of me, given the time of year. So it looks like I will have to get my coop together much more quickly than I thought. Mind you, there's still a bathroom I haven't cleaned yet in the new house, but my chickens and turkeys have come home to roost! :gig. Most of our clothes and personal items are still in the garage in boxes, including utensils, plates etc. Priorities, people! I think my hubby was surprised when he saw the "clown car effect" when I was unloading the chicks. I think only expected me to bring home 10 chicks. And baby turkeys. Well if you don't ask, you don't know! :old. I don't even remember how many I picked up... @stake. Thanks again for the little ones. Hope we didn't cause an upset for your other CCLs by taking their brood mates away. I made it home in time to have the last 20 minutes of light for the day. I rushed around so much to get everyone into bed and tucked in safe and sound. The turkeys and the pullets are in the carport (it measures 12 X 20, so it should be enough room) and the chicks are in a large critter cage in the garage, definitely safe from any predators. Time for bed! :yiipchick
Congrats on the house and progress and chickies! How exciting! :yiipchick

Tiny is an egg laying machine! She took 1 day off on her 4th day of laying, but has been going strong since then.

My two NHR's are 20 weeks old and will be starting soon I suppose, however their combs have not changed much. Ginger's is pretty red, but kind of dry looking?

Also... I found this poop earlier and I'm not sure if it's considered a "normal" poop... I've looked at the chart and tried searching on here with not much luck. Anyone know what this is? I had those small yellow worm-type looking things in July/August, and dewormed them... I looked at this and didn't see any movement. It almost looks like yellow crystals. I have been giving them small amounts of scratch in the morning since it's cool, but not much else has changed diet wise.

The quad of Midget White turkeys are essentially full grown. I believe at least one hen is laying, so you should get small turkey eggs right away. The others: 3 blue egg black sexlinks - hatched 6/3 2 California Greys - hatched 5/27 1 Welbar - hatched 5/20 5 Legbars - hatched 7/22 3 Welbars - hatched 7/22 1 Bielefelder - hatched 7/22 1 Bielefelder - hatched 7/29 The Cali Greys and Sexlinks might very well start laying at 5 months, or sooner, so you should put nestboxes out for them in October. They might not lay as soon since the days are getting shorter, but hopefully they will. Both of those breeds amaze me with their laying ability. The Legbars aren't far behind, but not as consistently day by day.
Thank you again also! I will bookmark this so I can refer to it later. Did you have all of those dates in your head? Or did you look it up? That's amazing either way. It's certainly going to take a bit for me to tell some of them apart. I just realized, these are all new breeds for me, how exciting! We all owe you a credit Dennis, for bringing these rare breeds so close for so many of us here. :thumbsup

Thanks! We are excited. I'm glad to soon not have a "shanty" coop too. My last coop was sturdy but looked like Mr. Magoo constructed it. And the worst part is that it only held a few chickens! This time I am doing it right and just having an old shed brought in! :D

. It's hard to tell from the picture, but that poop doesn't look abnormal to me. If everyone is acting normal, it may just be a fluke too.

Here I am wide awake at 2:00 am because it's the first night with my new brood. I was nervous about predators, so I took the dog with me to do a mini inspection to make sure everything was as it should be. The turkeys did not appreciate the glaring flashlight in the middle of the night. Everything looked good though.

Our new addition, Coco. Our first duckling. She's doing good keeping Mira company :)

Mr. Magoo! :gig That hit the nail on the head! All poos and chickies seem normal, so I'm not *too* worried.

Could it be a broody poo?

I don't think so, I don't see any broody behaviors from the trio. But thanks!
