Any suggestions on where we can get a shed/barn that's premade? We want a sturdier one that doesn't cost a fortune. This seems to be the route we are going to take to build the chickens another temporary home for the winter. It will cost about $600 to fix up the barn that they are in now. We are going to be tearing it down in the spring, so that's just a waste of money. We have looked at already made chicken coops and they seem outrageously priced. We can build one for them, but we are running out of time to get it done.
Oh and we live in Central PA. Thanks!

There are places that sell sheds and coops. The coops are overpriced trash IMO. The sheds are awesome! So far, the places that I have looked at offer monthly payments. $1,100 shed with a porch, shelves, work table, ppl door and sliding door with ramp. The worktable has a place underneath where I imagine the cans of feed and scratch. The table is good for checking out a bird or placing the feeders while you're filling them. The shelves, I would have taken out half of them, and put in roosts. I can only guess that the size was eight feet tall, and 100 ft.² plus where the shelves were (about 2' deep, six' wide). The wall came ineard after you walk in the people door, so a wall could be built to separate the coop area from the work area. Ie, rather than a ten foot wide wall, you would put in a six foot wall.
Anyway, if you pay attention, you can see these lots throughout Pennsylvania. I have seen them by the Dubois mall, as well as outside a country convenience store out in the middle of Pennsylvania somewhere.

Sadly, the EE escaped the kennel into the woods and I'm hardly expecting it to find its way back. Hubby tried really hard to catch it. As they were kept almost wild, I guess it was too much to ask... Feeling very sad.

I would look up any place that does shed moving and sales. Don't be afraid to ask! I did this a few weeks ago in prep for my new birds. Some places offer free shed removal for people when they buy a new one. The old sheds are not in the best of shape, but the businesses can still resell them (perhaps for a chicken coop! ). The local shed place I called said they have different used sheds all the time for that purpose. I am having them deliver and place the shed as well.

I went the other day after calling and found a 10x12 shed that will be perfect. It does need a new roof, but for now I can tarp it. In a couple of months I will put a new roof on myself. I shingled the last coop with no experience, I can do another! The 10x12 shed cost me $375 cash including shipping and placement. I think that's a deal because I'm sure it would cost me close to that in materials alone. The lady at the business also said they could put it up on cinder blocks, if I had them available when they placed it. That way, I have extra room for the chickens to hide out underneath. I'm very excited to get it here. Thankfully, the guy is coming out do a site check, to see where he can place it. Now I just need to figure out how to install some roosts...

The pre made chicken coops I have seen either tend to be cheap, small and made of flimsy materials, or beautiful and quite costly. And too small for most of us here. The used shed route seems to be the way to go! Also check craigslist, some people have sheds they just want to get rid of, and the moving cost isn't a ton. Best of luck!

I would call mountain road structures they are about two minutes from where I live but they may be far for you. They take old sheds but I don't know what they charge or anything.

Depending on your location you can try AZ structures in Dixonville Pa, 15734

What Annie and MotorcycleChick told you is spot on advice, many shed building businesses will move used sheds for a set fee + mileage.
Good luck in your search.

I'd like to find the one your talking about for $1,100. All the ones at DuBois mall were all over price and not even just a plain Jane one that we would have to modify was that cheaper. A coop (which I agree is very cheaply made) was around $2000. We went over there yesterday morning and looked at them, the Shed guys and at Lowes.

When I look it up it comes up Clymer. I'm about an hour from there. May still go take a look. Living near Punxsy you think I'd be able to find a decent one or Amish built one some where near by.
