Haven't been able to keep up here this summer, but I do have a couple questions that you guys may be able to help with...

First thing, my blue egg laying black sexlink from dheltzel started laying a fee weeks ago... I got 2 or 3 blue eggs that first week but haven't gotten any since, it's been at least 3 weeks. She appears happy and healthy, vent looks normal, doesn't feel like she has a lump or anything down there, no evidence of egg eating. What am I missing? A few other girls came into lay after her, but they are light brown or dark brown eggs.

Next, anyone know anything about pheasants? Hubs decided to pick up some pheasants from a friend and as they are maturing, one of the boys looks different from the other... like a different breed go mixed in by accident? He is a little bigger than the others and doesn't have the beautiful feather colors. He has the long tail, red face, and starting to get the white ring-neck, but he's all light brown colored.

Also, I may be making a trip back east around Halloween or the weekend after, if anyone needs anything transported on the chicken train. I'll update when I know details for sure. :)

I can only answer about the pullet eggs. She should begin to lay again in about a week. It is just part of working out the kinks. Some girls will lay for a week or two every day, then not again for a month.

It might just be a slower maturing boy or a color mutation. Did you buy them as chicks?

Brought home the new guy today. He's not perfect but not bad either. No clue on his lineage though. Once his quarentine is up, he'll be going in with my best colored and best crested hens to see what he produces. It looks like he's dealing with some scaly leg mites :/ I scrubbed his legs with soapy water, an old toothbrush, and covered them in Vaseline. I'll be treating him with safeguard and ivermectin pour on too to try to make sure he's totally clean before he joins my flock. I had to trim his nails too. They were long, filthy, and starting to twist :/

Jaebels update: She's doing well. Standing more often and for longer periods of time. Not so flopsy when she tries to walk. I take her outside on the patio so she can have some sunshine and bugs and scratch around in the weeds. spoiled little brat. Hopefully, one more week and she'll be able to go back to the flock. Anything I need to do to make her transition easy? Will they remember her or is it like a new bird?
