Picture time! Here are pics of the coops progress. Stairs installed, a removable 2x4 at the entrance to keep the mess inside, chicken door installed, and chicken guard door opener set up. @dheltzel, the entrance is about 16x16. I think that should be big enough for my Tom. It looks like it from the pictures. Pardon the mess, I will clean it up when I am done. Does anyone have any ideas for the blue plastic poles? They came in the coop and I think they are pvc. They could be used for something, but I can't think of anything right now. The lights inside the coop are to draw them in and allow them to get settled.

I hope she makes it. They are pretty resilient animals. Best of luck. :hugs

you go,,,,maybe time to strut you stuff........

I'm so excited! I have a completely free weekend to stay home and work on my chicken setup!  On the list for this weekend is

-installing the automatic door opener (and making a door)
- power washing and painting the exterior
- beginning the run.

That should keep me busy!  Looks like we have a beautiful couple days for it too.  What will you all be doing this weekend?

Argh, no rest for the weary this weekend lol.

Tonight, girl scouts are getting together to open a bank account. My son wants to go to the school dance after we're done at the bank. While he's there, my daughter and I have cleaning and halloween treats to make for our guests that are coming over tomorrow evenin.

Tomorrow, gotta finish cleaning up whatever we didn't manage to get done (probably mostly everything. Hang the plastic panels in the screen porch, and make buffalo chicken dip and taco dip. Our company is coming up around 5 or 6 for a boon fire and maybe some card games. I'm sure everyone will be here till late.

Sunday, it's clean up the leftover mess from the party. I seriously doubt we'll be up in time for church. Trick or treat for the kids is from 1-3 then we have to stay for the parade since the girl scouts are marching in it. Then it's come home and get ready to drive to my stop for the chicken train lol. Busy weekend!

Wow! Did you get it all done?

One of or hens is having a particularly bad feather day!

Oh that poor girl! At least they don't have to sit on those spines. And we've had a mild fall.

My chicken train stop was successful and there are 6 new additions here. It was dark when I got home so they'll move to the coop tomorrow. Thank you @dheltzel and @emorems0

What kind of additions are they? :D

How long are the blue poles? They could be used as framework for netting over garden beds to protect the crop from birds and bugs. Use plumbing joints to attach.

That's a great idea! I'm not even thinking gardens for next year yet, I've been so busy working and setting up my new coop.

So tonight, I sat out in the rain to make sure the coop door closed in time. Of course it did! Now the trick will be to get them to use the chicken ramp and entrance. I will leave one of the double doors open tomorrow. Hopefully I will be awake and showered tomorrow before the door opens, so I can watch the confusion.
