What are the odds of 6 chicks making a 2 1/2-3 day trip? They have a cucumber? With them and a heat pack I believe.

I'm really sorry you're dealing with this again. I can't believe the run of luck. Did the post office have any explanation for where your LIVE animals are that were supposed to arrive today?

I don't know what kind of heat pack Ideal uses, but if it's anything like Meyer's (the little white papery packs that feel like they're filled with sand), then their warmth seems to be pretty much gone after 24 hours. I always pick my chicks up in person from Meyer and have never had any fatalities at the chick stage (although I did lose two pullets to coccidiosis last summer, but they were out in the coop, fully feathered and not in the brooder). Since you're close enough for a short day trip, maybe that would be a good option for you next time to save some of the heartache. They seem to hatch on Sundays, so you can pick the chicks up in store on Monday or Tuesday. I'm sorry for you, and sorry for those poor chicks that the post office has failed to deliver on time. I have seen people on BYC say that they had surviving chicks when the delivery was late--I really really hope that happens here.

Also, another silkied lavender Ameraucana is out already.

And, I got 2 turkey eggs today. The first of the year.

Yay!!! I remember you saying you had a hard time getting the peachicks to hatch, so that's exciting--I hope you have more to follow, and I hope there are pics in our future! :)

I did get my first batch from Meyer and they were great. Only ordered from Ideal because I couldn't find baby East Indie ducklings anywhere else and all of my EEs from Meyer were the same color so I tried to find some a little different. I just don't get how both could be late at the same time. Coming from two different places. I guess I was spoiled with my first batch being fine after shipping. Just hoping they made it. The 6 EEs on their own weren't hatchery so I'm hoping they're a little tougher. Still haven't hit Pittsburgh if tracker is up todate so not a great chance of them getting in on the morning truck. Hopefully tomorrow wont be horrible. I'm done for awhile if it doesn't go well.

I really prefer getting chicks mailed to me in the summertime. Last year I had very few losses, except some bantams, and I learned that bantams need extra attention the first week. This year the only shipment so far had heavy losses (14 of 40 perished) because of the cold. I am getting a second shipment from Sandhill the week of the 18th. If they send them express this time, I'm pretty confident they will survive.

Oh my goodness this is terrible :( I'm really hoping for those little ones and for you!

It's day 4 of my little GLW chick being sick.

All in all, behavior is totally normal - active, eats/drinks/poops normal. It has sneezes/gurgly breathing and looks like it's gasping for air, which seems to gets worse when it gets worked up (like when I'm reaching in the cage to get it for it's "treatment" of oral Tylan200 and VetRx rub)

I made a video of it for anyone to check out if you can help.
It was just an hour ago (9:30pm) so it is sleepy time! Lol If your volume is up, you might be able to hear it's congestion. Around 1 minute it sneezes. I feel like this is how I am when my allergies are acting up and it's a struggle to breathe. This poor little thing...

Thank you in advance

I got my Ameraucanas from Once in a Blue Moon Farmstead yesterday! They are beautiful! But now I have 58 chicks!!! Holy crap! I lost an EE who was about 8 weeks old by drowning in the duck pool and 2 Sebright chicks this week. It's been a crazy emotional highs and lows. Trying to move chicks around and get everyone settled.

Terramycin is sort of like neosporin except it's made specifically for eye injuries. You can usualy find it at feed stores. I got my last tube at TSC.

Went to TSC between dropping a kid off for rehearsal and picking them all up for 4-H... They didn't have it, had a spot for it on the shelf, but they were out. The guy said they are really limiting the medicines they are able to sell lately and just dropped a bunch of abx this January. He said the terramycin is one of those things that they only get a few of at a time and they just sell out right away. He checked all of the surrounding stores and they are ALL out. Not sure what to do now. We have a doctor appointment that will take most of the morning tomorrow, maybe I can google on the drive down. I feel so bad for him.

I flushed his eye out with saline but had to use some gauze to wipe away the little crust of puss. He did NOT like that! after the crust was gone though, the saline was able to get into his eyelid and I hope that made a difference. Good news, he chugged a bunch of water all by himself after the saline flush! Still hasn't eaten food, but he drank so much water once he got started that I was worried he would over-saturate.
