Eek. I had to toss three turkey eggs tonight, leaving me with only two viables. I had to also toss a bantam langshan egg also, leaving me with only 4 of those. Dheltzel, if you come across a decent small to medium sized incubator, can you let me know? I've been checking Craigslist, but there seems to only be that one all the way out in Carlisle. A bit too far of a drive for me.
I will remember if I see one.

That pair in Carlisle are in incredible deal for someone already experienced in refurbing older GQF's, but not for the person wanting to just plug it in and add eggs.

Last couple days to make plans before the chicken train departs... So far I believe I am picking up some poults from Aurora for Blarney on my way out (@Blarneyeggs
, we need to talk about drop off)... and picking up some chicks from @dheltzel
for @hyzenthlay
on my way back on Tuesday.

Well this is awfully tempting! But not sure I'm prepared for more. Really hoping the other 2 chicks I have are pullets though...

Lol, the crele orpington and the serama were from Sally Sunshine. She sent me some eggs but only a few hatched. I do not have the serama seperate. She'd be one lonely baby! She's quite content to wiggle under everyone else's feet and wings.

Well I'll have to be really nice to @SallySunshine I guess lol. I want any crele but I haven't had Orpingtons before so that'd be cool.

Sounds like a cute bunch...and I have found that the littlest birds are surprisingly 'big personalities' in the coop. :)

Does anyone have one of these types? The price seems pretty good. Any ideas?

I'm kind of leery of the "no name" brands like Rite Farm and the cheap Chinese imports sold on Amazon and eBay. I've never known anyone who had them and don't want be the ones to find out it is wasted money. I feel like at that price you are halfway to a Genesis. I own 5 cabinet incubators and still keep the Genesis running every week. That's quite an endorsement, it would be easier to use the bottom of a cabinet incubator, but I get such good hatches in the Genesis, that my more valuable eggs go in there.

I know this isn't your plan, but a good incubator could make enough money from chicks you sell to pay for itself fairly quickly. I think that is true for a Genesis or cabinet incubators, but you need to hustle for sales more if you hatch more chicks.

I wouldn't do it. I've heard very mixed reviews on those.

I recommend this

Yes, it's still styrofoam, but I've found it to be very stable. This is the one that was recommended to me a few years ago. I love it and still use it weekly for my hatches.
