There were fewer boys than I thought in this hatch. 4 boys, 5 girls and 1 that I'm not positive on. The 4 boys and 1 iffy one went outside. Only Ana was interested in adoption but the others just haven't been sitting very long yet. Like always, she's very happily caring for her 5 new babies. It's the biggest group I've ever given her. If she does a great job, I may give her a big clutch next time. I have a few more eggs going in to lockdown today. Then 1 more turkey egg due next Monday and the incubator will be empty. I'll have some BCM eggs coming within the month though. I'm hatching most of them for someone else but I'm getting a few for myself too. I think they're Little Peddler and Greenfire lines.
Best of luck with the wild turkey egg! Have you candled yet?
Niko keeps stealing eggs. Every day now, I have to lift her off the eggs to do a count and remove the ones I didn't mark. But the pencil is wearing off. Is there any real reason that at 2/3 of the way thru this incubation that I should not use a dry erase marker? I don't want to poison the clutch but need something that will last longer than a day or two.
I tried candling them also. Either the eggs are too dark shelled or my flashlight is not bright enough. Or both. I couldn't see anything. Not that there was no development, but that I couldn't see to tell. Good thing I only have another week to wait. It's like waiting for Santa!
Use a sharpie! I learned from everybody else here too.
I use a sharpie marker, we have yet to have a chick hatch with a tattoo.
I know, I know.....v![]()
X2!
That one is a wild turkey egg that my neighbor found. Either he will want it to raise up or I'm going to lol
Definitely use a sharpie. Every one of my eggs, whether they go in the bator or under a broody gets marked with a sharpie. Everyone is always fine![]()
Have you watched the documentary/ Tv show My life as a turkey? The guy hatches, imprints, and grows a clutch of wild turkeys. Very different from domesticated. Very cool though.
Oh yeah.
Well, the first broody has no chicks.
One was a blood ring, and the other sprayed me in the face.![]()
Oh barf! Poor thing!
