Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

True. The resulting birds will be black and only carry a single gene for lavender.
If you want more lavenders, I have both eggs and chicks, large fowl, bantam, and silkied large fowl.
I would take some large fowl lavender eggs or chicks to reward my determined broody if you were closer! No Pottstown to Kennett Square chicken train?

Please keep us informed. No plans to be breeding ATM, but chicken math is undeniable.

Surely this is code for "pop a few more in the box"....

So sad. I lost my last Midget white hen. Makes me feel like such a failure. I think the Roo chased her out of the coop last night, and she stayed out overnight. I didn't do a head count last night, because I was working on bumblefoot surgery on my one girl. Poor Wheezy, RIP.

So sorry Annie, I know how much time you dedicated to her....that just sucks.

Thanks. Woke up today and did a head count in the light. Pretty sure all of my chickens are fine but on top of the ducklings I lost an east Indie. Pretty sure it was the male I was going to breed and at least two of my older Muscovy babies. Both of my blue barred that I was excited about. Found one ripped apart in creek. Ugh.

I'm sorry, that's the worst :(

We caught to raccoons today and killed them. Hoping We get them all.

Random question for all you PA people. Im discovering acres of blackberry, raspberry, and black raspberry plants on our property. I've never delt with berry plants before and have never seen black raspberry. Have a few questions.

1 Will it help them if I clear out the other plants around them? Theres grape vine cutting into some of them and taller plants cutting into the light.

2 Will the new raspberry plants produce this year or just the old ones

3 Any info on black raspberry or their berry production.

I'm trying to tame them a little so its easier to pick but not sure if I should.

Don't raccoons come out at night? I haven't had any problems with them yet, and I think it's because I securely lock up my chickens every night, but I don't know.

As for the raspberry and black raspberry bushes, we have plenty in the woods too but we leave them alone so I'm not sure. @dheltzel and others gave you good advice! Enjoy the raspberries!

Anyone near Pottstown want some ducklings, guineas, or chicks? I have too many and will make you a sweet deal, just to get them into good homes.

That's too tempting, thankfully you're too far away lol.

So my first ever broody chicken, Tiny, has been sitting on 4 eggs. Two of them hatched out and two died in the shell. She has been doing good as a first time mama though. It's new for both me and her! The babies are 50% americana, 25% buff orpington, and 25% speckled. What a strange mix... I'm hoping to have at least one female so I can keep her :wee
