Hey there! :welcome from Berks County! :D

Also holy crap I'm gone for like a week because of school and all hell starts breaking loose!! YIKES!

@kie4 I'm so sorry to hear about your hen, I'm hoping it's not Marek's please keep us posted. I remember how hard it was when Sofia had to be put down because she just didn't recover, just know that we're all here for you no matter what. :hugs

Aw that's ok. I'll find some chickens near me, I'm sure. I can rescue some more from our neighbor in the spring :)

You're insane hatching eggs in this cold weather! But congratulations. I look forward to fluffy chick photos in the near future :love

Hey rescuing some from the neighbor is always a great idea! And Thanks!! I can't wait till they hatch!!! I wanna get them ready to go when the spring comes, also we're going to be attempting to get coops soonish to separate everyone that needs separating.

Free to a good home, 6 sexlink chickens, they are good layers and turned a year in may, i am moving and unable to take them, i will bring them to you if you are located within an hour of the Philadelphia area

Ooooo sexlinks?! I love sexlinks. However, this is more of @LeBlackbird 's department if @AnneInTheBurbs hasn't already gotten them snagged for her or her friend.

Now back to some good news! It's day 12 in the incubator! And I've gotten rid of all the clears, aka the only eggs left are my Ameracaunas from @dheltzel which are ALL STILL FERTILE BTW!!! :weeWe also got out first pair of rabbits thanks to @LeBlackbird buying them for me at the reptile show in Hamburg on the 2nd. (Crazy woman just buying me rabbits lol) We're still working on getting them hand tame before we start breeding them and I'm looking at adding some more breeding stock to our group before we start breeding/doing anything with the rabbits.

Finals week is upon us. Brace yourselves!!!

Glad to see you back. Is this your first go at hatching chicks? It is sooo much fun! My broody is on day 19 of her hatch, but I’m pretty sure she will have a later hatch, because of her being off the nest for a couple of days.

I did contact that member to see about finding those girls a home, but I have not had any reply yet. I don’t need th extra birds but I’m always happy to make one space and give them a good home.

I am brand new to having my own chickens. I have always been around barn chickens and my friend has about 30 on her homestead. I have always wanted them and Hubby just gave me the green light to get some of our own! I ordered chicks through mypetchicken.com, and we will be getting 8 pullets in April, 6 Wyandottes (3 different varieties) and 2 Speckled Sussex. We are building the coop in our garage with an attached run.

Hi Devon! I just saw your other thread, and I am in the same boat as you! I'm getting babies late April. I'm down near Gettysburg. It will be fun to experience this together!

And to everyone else - I've posted here a few times and my big new is that I'm getting 7 (hopefully) pullets on April 24. I am officially taking the plunge! My goal is 5 hens, so I ordered two extra in case of loss or sexing errors. If I have extra, I plan to rehome them. I plan to, anyway. :gig I ordered a mix of breeds, but am open to switching things around if there are hatch problems. I ordered two Buff Orps and two EE's - those were my definites because of temperament with the Buffs and the blue eggs with the EE's. Then 1 each of Speckled Sussex (already wishing I had gotten 2 but didn't want to overdo it as a newbie), Australorp, and Dominique. It was SUCH a hard choice, as I'm also interested in Salmon Favs, Welsummer, and Light Brahmas.

And, I've taken your advice and will be converting my pole barn (formerly goat-inhabited) into a coop after all. I've begun work, and am partitioning off a 10'x12' inside for a coop. Then the "run" (more of a paddock) will be a weirdly shaped 24' x 20'x 10' x 12'. There are opportunities for expansion. And yes, I'm using a ton of hardware cloth everywhere!

Thanks to all of my months of research, I am now suffering from "Chicken Information Overload" :p -- "deep litter or not? Fermented food or not? Medicated starter or not?" But I'm VERY excited and looking forward to sharing with you all.

Thank you for your reply! I'm so excited to get started! I think I'm going through the same "information overload". I am so thankful that my best friend is a homesteader and she's really experienced with chick rearing and chickens, so thankfully I have her as a good resource to use.
