What kind of geese are they? I loved the video--They are gorgeous!

Thank you :) Lollipop is a Chinese goose (he's the smaller one with the white band on his chest) and Sunshine is an African goose. They're my sweet boys. They view me as mom and I think mate too lol. They're not as sweet to anyone they don't know.

Just thought I'd say hi! I'm in ehe SE PA region, on the Philly/Bensalem border. I was reading the one of the girls gets pallets all the time. I'm definitely interested there. I've been searching through CL often to no avail. At least not less than a half hr away. IDK where in SE PA @Lelanae is, but I'll be keeping tabs for the next time you come across the free pallets. In the process of building my 1st coop/run but the rain has been a huge hindrance. Maybe a blessing by giving me more time to acquire the free materials. I know my chicks will arrive the wk of April 16th, and I don't like waiting to the last minute. It's been a pleasure reading backwards on this thread. (I don't think I'd get through 7k plus posts any time soon had I started from the beginning. Lol)

Welcome, from Cambria county! Most of us didn't build our coops until our chicks were almost too big for their brooders lol

I have been reading as such. I have a hard time procrastinating. I know I can never be 100% ready, since I'm new to this, but I want to be sure I'm somewhat making progress. My luck, I'll have a blizzard or some other 'out of my control event' prevent me from building when they are ready to go out.

Always good to get started sooner, these things inevitable take longer that we planned for. As you are building, post pics here and be open to suggestions. I have built many coops, some I'm not too proud of in hindsight. What seemed like a great idea turned out not to be, other things worked even better than I expected. People (including me) love to give out advice, as long as it doesn't require actual work.

Hello there! I am probably the closest to you. I am in Northern Bucks County, but I used to live closer to the middle. Pallets can always be found on Craigslist, under the free section. Also, there are several industrial business areas in Bensalem and the NE philly area. Try taking a drive around the campuses. Many time you will find pallets by the curb. I always ask before I take, just to be sure. If you still need help, I have a source in Warminster that puts them out all the time. The last time, they had some with 1/2” plywood on the side already. They are perfect pre made walls! You will probably need a strong friend to help though, those suckers get heavy.

I was so thankful (and I still am) for this forum. When I was getting my second coop ready after our move, @Auroradream26 recommended I elevate my coop for the girls, so that th y could run underneath. Also, so that I could crawl underneath if I had to catch anyone. I have... :cool:

Please don’t hesitate to chime in, we are all happy to help! :welcome

Haha, I think I was the exception here, at least the first time. I posted pictures of my build, way before I ever got chicks. The second time around, I used a modified enclosure with my birds, before my permanent coop came. And now I am building more coops for the turkeys, a broody pen, a duck pen... etc. :oops:

I didn't show you guys here yet, but do you all remember my little turkey poult last year, Sprinkles? The beautiful little penciled one that ended up dying on me? Well guess what just hatched this weekend?

2 little penciled poults! I need a new picture now that they're competely fluffy and you can see their "Sprinkles" better. I'm still not sure where they came from. As far as I know, I sold the penciled hen that gave me Sprinkles last year. Unless Mister has actualy mated with someone, but I thought he was still too immature (let alone being the lowest on the totem pole)

Yes I do remember...and I know how disappointed you were when you lost her. So glad to see a couple more have hatched! Must be some of your stock have recessive genes which agree/match up to make your 'Sprinkles' chicks!

Welcome from the Lehigh Valley!
I agree that it's best to get done what you can as soon as you can - it'll help avoid some headaches! I bought a prefab coop out of newbie experience and the fact that I was gifted chicks and need a coop stat. Fast forward 2 years and a tiny bit of chicken math later... I just converted an 8x8 shed this past summer/fall and it took WAY longer than planned due to work, life, motivation, know-how, mistakes and endless supply runs to the hardware store. And I still need to make some changes once the weather dries out a bit!

This website has TONS of excellent resources and folks happy to help! :jumpy

I just wanted to state that I performed a miracle yesterday...

I went to TSC with my fiancée for 2 things: scratch and PDZ... And walked out with ONLY those 2 things... And some treats for our dog. But I successfully turned down chicks! :lol:
We did stop and look, and the tub of black sex link pullets was very, VERY tempting (even for him!) but I managed to say no!
:yesss::gig
