LOVE me some fluffy Orps.

Lol, I went out and she was off the nest and had laid an egg, but I have a feeling. You can tell when they are getting in the mood.

Yep, I posted a list of 'stages of broody behavior' a long time ago on the broody hen thread, and I agree with you.... It is usually pretty easy to see the pre broody behavior after having seen it a time or two. Most of our hens have obvious signs before parking, the only variable seems to be how many days they gripe, grouch and debate before finally deciding to park themselves.

I'm so sorry for your losses.
I'm about 40 minutes north west of Altoona and can meet in Altoona on certain weekdays. I have legbars available now and will have sex linked Olive eggers before long. My lavender ameraucanas aren't giving me much but I'm hoping to have them in a month or so. Still waiting on my Marans girl to start laying again.
Thank you. I would very much be interested. I’m actually in Snow Shoe so depending on where you are I could maybe come to you?

Hello there, sorry you are having to start again, I know how hard that can be.

I have used the heating pad setup, and it’s wonderful. @Blooie has a whole article on it. It is important to get one that does not have an “automatic off” feature. Also, the recommendation for using “press and seal” wrap on the towel covering the heating pad is excellent. They like to sit and poop all over it, and it makes for easy cleanup.

I will post pictures of my little ones snuggled underneath.

Thank you!! They look so comfy under there. Do you have the hearing pad under or on top of the wire? And if it’s under how do you secure it. I did find the thread on here about it. Lots of great ideas, need to head to Walmart

Beautiful! I just got a dozen blue/splash and lavender orp eggs in the mail yesterday and I'm getting chocolate ones next week :)

Looks like I may be slightly closer to you than Altoona is. I'm just outside of Patton. I have cream legbars now, 5 pullets and 2 cockerels with a couple more due to hatch tomorrow along with some blue egg laying black sex links. It's going to be at least a month, minimum until I have anymore lavender ameraucanas. I may have a few sex linked olive eggers due in the next week or two but I'll have to double check. Send me a pm when you're ready!
