What about baby chicks? Is it smart to buy many when they are a day old, raise until 6 weeks, then sell for more money? I was looking around a while ago for chickens to add to my flock. I found on TSC or some other website, that they were selling pairs of chickens at 6 weeks old, for $100!

So I think I'm gonna start putting things up on Craiglist. I still have the two Biefelder Males I'm selling for $6 a piece. But I really need to start making money off of the farm. :/ Anyone got any ideas?? (Besides breeding a lot more animals...)

I may have to cull my midget chick. It looks like she is developing a crops beak, and she is much smaller than the others that the broody is raising. I also noticed this morning that she seems to have an oozing eye, with some type of crust around it. :( I think it may be kinder at this point to cull. I guess the broody knew best to ignore her screams. The chicks was peeping a lot this morning, more than normal, and that is why I checked her.

One rule of marketing -- just because someone advertises something for a certain price doesn't mean they sold any at that price.
I get loads of responses to my ads for chicks asking if I have any older pullets available (I don't), so there is a market for older birds, but usually they want them at point-of-lay, not 6 weeks. Oh, and they won't normally pay over $20 each for them because there are places you can buy POL red sexlinks for under $10. A month ago I was trying to sell 6 week old pullets for $15 each, and got no takers at all, so I gave them to a neighbor for free.
You might be able to figure out how to make money raising chicks to 6 weeks, but I sure haven't been able to.

Are you selling eggs? Can you sell any hatching eggs?

Anyone got any Ameraucana eggs right now? I'm up for a little drive, located an hour from Erie. I have a real committed broody.

Or interesting call ducks or small breed geese?

Thanks all!

I have a few ameraucana eggs sitting here and is probably have more by the weekend. They'd be Mosely lavender, maybe a couple black split to lavender and possible silkie feathered.

Lots of fluffiness !!
