The quail are making their grownup noises. I have heard trilling, cooing and croaking. I thought I was imagining the croaking, but someone else commented on it too. So funny!
I’m surprised that they are doing it so soon.

The lady that got quail from me just a couple weeks before you texted me to tell me she got her first egg yesterday! I think I set your eggs right after hers hatched... At least very soon after

Ohhh! Thank you for the photos!! I often wonder if the coop I buy will be big enough for 6 hens... Advertising vs. Reality. I'd hate for them to be cramped inside or have trouble walking up the ramp...

We started with a purchased coop and run that was supposed to hold 6 birds. I still think it was too small for 2. I had to enclose the whole thing for it to be big enough for 2. I have since built my own coop and run. Be careful if you buy one and watch the actual square footage, roost size, height and location. We can all help. We have lots of opinions and will gladly offer them and as well as free advice. If you find something you, I would post it here and let us help evaluate it for you so understand what you are getting before you buy.

My red peppers germinated poorly, but I did have a few good looking plants out of an entire pack of seeds. The green never germinated. I planted throughout the spring and summer. Changed sun and water habits. Nothing. The freebies I received never germinated either.
Watermelon was not impressive, but...
I ended up with tomatoes that got blight quickly, and didn’t grow very big. Not a single pepper of any kind made it, and the melons, pumpkin and... whatever else I planted didn’t grow much.
Last year was a terrible growing season. My garden did not do well either. Very disappointing

Drafts are bursts of air coming from the window behind me, making me cold, and blowing through my heating oil. :rant
Wind is the stuff that moves through the window freely above their heads.

Thanks for all the info!

@BullChick & @FluffyButt789 ,
My dad has a plastic shed, not as many bells & whistles with doors and windows..but DH was letting me know that he has issues with squirrels chewing through it. Those dang squirrels have chewed the wiring on his old van, and numerous other important things around the property.
Just another view on the issue at hand...didn't want to barge in on your conversation:oops:.

Looks like a real nice shed, but if your that concerned about drafts with all the extra "ports" & doors, maybe the wood shed would be better?? Do you have a picture of the wooden one?
Might be easier to retro-fit/alter a wooden one?...
Sorry not much help here. We have a wood & 1/2 brick coop. Have learnt to work around the brick bottom, having the wood makes it easier to attach things.
The plastic would be awesome though for keeping clean..that is a plus-plus, but I am a bit nutts-o about stuff like that:gig

Yes I thought about critters chewing through the plastic, but we don't have many critters anyway, and generally keep the doors open during the day so they do help themselves to the chicken food. (I am a big animal lover) We also have birds come in and lay their eggs in our nesting boxes :gig I figure I'll inspect the coop every day for chew marks, and add stones, chicken wire, or other deterrents. I really want the plastic coop because our current wood coop is leaking. At least plastic is easier to seal up! Tired of the mold and dirtiness in our current coop.

I'm intrigued. Quail are tiny little birds, aren't they? What made you become obsessed with them? Talk me into it! ;)

OMGosh you really didn't just ask her to do that?!
You are in for it now....I am staying back...
They are cute, small/tiny and fairly easy to raise. Talking DH into a quail pen in the future!! He is into it:yesss:, will be making more of a mini-aviary for them. Have eaten quail before..taste like chicken:lau:smack. They were wild, not sure if the taste is different semi-domesticated??:idunno
