//ROOSTERS//

When will I know I have a rooster?
One week old? Two weeks?

Is there an exchange forum available on this site to help rehome roosters?

If I wind up with roosters, would any of you local sweeties like them? Happy to drive them to you!
My buff orpintonton just started showing at 3 weeks I’ll post a pic of him and his mate so u can see the difference. I think when you can tell depends on the breed as well. If you browse the chicken breed section in articles and check out each breed you have it may give you some ideas! I’m new to chickens this year so I’m not of help. I purchased 4 reds and 2ncornish cross (meaties) first go around then 2ndays later grabbed the 2 b.orpingtons hoping for a roo so she did her best to sex for me (she did good lol) then we went back and picked up 4 barred rock straight run and 4 barmevelders(which hubby picked and didn’t know what they were till we went back later that week. The b.rick and barenevelders are straight run so chances are I’ll get Roos however they r dual purpose so we all understand my b.o is only roo for me so all others will become dinner.

At about three days, girls will have wing feathers coming in. Boys won’t. I think that is a good indicator, but some disagree.
Otherwise, as Jandsloch said, it depends.
There is s buy/sell/trade section.

Hey everyone! Northwestern pa....new to chickies this year! :)

Welcome from Cambria country! If you need more chicks, I can help you out! Lol

New to BYC and don't even have my birds yet (but I'm a wanna-be chicken mom at this point)- from Centre County, Bellefonte area, high up on a mountain!

Welcome from Cambria county! I have chicks right now if you're ready for some to get started! Lol

My first batch of chicks arrive tomorrow! :celebrate

I think I have everything in order:
  • Starter Grit
  • Starter Feed
  • Heat Plate
  • Feeder
  • Water
  • Temperature Gauge
  • Soft Flake Pine Shavings
  • Potty Pads
  • 54-Gallon Tub

My cats are super curious. Haha!

You sound prepared to me! You really don't need chick grit unless they're going to be eating things other than chick starter, like treats :)

It can take anywhere from a month to 6 months to tell, depending on breed. You can post them for free on pennswoods.net or Craigslist but I wouldn't ask what will become of them. That's the best way to unload roosters.

Just spent the last hour tearing apart the washer with DH because the filter was clogged. Of course, the last thing I wanted was dirty chicken towels so I though that they had clogged it up, even though I got most of the junk off of them before I even threw them in the washer. Nope! We instead found the sock monster/thief! There were 2 socks stuck in the filter, blocking it and trapping all the nasty chicken towel water (which was so much fun to spill everywhere during the unclogging). I'm hoping that the sock monster has been slain for good....

I've always got them lol! Chicken math really is a real thing and people that don't have chickens just don't understand, until they get some lol.

I'm about 1 1/2-2 hours east of Pittsburg, sort of near the Altoona/Ebensburg/Johnstown/Punxy areas
