Does anyone have geese? I am thinking of adding a couple to my flock. And wanted any advice on them and what kind to get.

I have two geese. Sunshine is an African and Lollipop is a Chinese. Both boys lol. My best advice is to get them as young as possible and hand raise them. They will bond strongly with you. My boys are the sweetest guys ever and are basically my personal body guards any time I'm out in the yard lol. They don't like to be held and cuddled but they like to be close and an occasional petting. Lollipop is more social and has to be in the middle of whatever is going on. Sunshine is more of an observer from just out of reach though he will come to me or my daughter for attention :)

Duckling is sick. I currently have her in a recliner since she cannot breathe. I’m trying to drink coffee, but the bad breath from open mouth breathing, and the noises she’s making are grossing me out!

Thank you guys, for the suggestions. Fly-strike hen is in a cage inside the coop with the rest of the flock. Since it's a big shed, there's plenty of room for them all to get around. I cleaned it out before putting her in there, and I hope she cheers up. There have been some hawks in the area terrorizing my chickens so they are staying locked up for now. It has been a long week, with this hen, and now my outside cat got attacked by something so I have to tend to his wounds too! Oy.

Do you have any problems with their knob getting frostbite in winter? I've heard they are less winter hardy and much louder than the other types of geese (Roman, Embden, etc)

Hi All! It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. I had been living in NY. Last spring I had gotten eggs from @dheltzel.
I ended up with 1 OE hen, 1 Cali grey hen and 4 boys. This spring the OE hid 18 eggs and 15 hatched. 7 girls and 8 boys. I had 3 girls by my EE roo and 4 by the CG roo that we couldn’t catch to get rid of lol. 1 of those chicks didn’t make.

So I’ve been gone all summer in KY and got back Monday night. Tuesday my dog discovered this same OE hen had 14 eggs hidden in the front flower bed. So my dad moved them to the hutch to hatch. I was shocked this morning to open the door and find that they already hatched!! These are all by the EE roo as we finally caught the Cali.

Pics are of the pullets born in May and today’s chicks! The pullets by my EE roo are really beautiful
