Is that really downsizing? I feel like: One emu = 10+ chickens..... And then you need more younger girls for eggs.....

We rarely even eat eggs anymore so that doesn't even really matter much lol. The emu would be a pet, like a dog living outside IF that even happens. It's all just becoming more of a chore than I have time for now. I sew for hours on end daily now getting saddles made and can barely keep up lol. I'm dreading going back to work just because of the amount of time it will take me away from being home to work!

I will be retiring a bunch of older hens this summer to make room for young, vaccinated, pullets. I was planning to release them to go feral on the farm, but if you really want an older hen, let me know. Should have black and lav Ameraucanas, Welbars, Marans, bantam Ameraucanas.

Going to Green Dragon tonight to swap some eggs. May take a few extra roosters to sell and see if they bring good prices.

Yes, you certainly do. And several brooders, then I can ship boxes of chicks to you and you can resell them in your area. Go from being just a user to a dealer . . . .
OOOO! YES! The black Ameraucana hen was SUCH a favorite!!! Let me know when you have sorted out your rejects!

First congratulations on great sales! Hire some local teenagers to help you keep up, and raise your prices --just a little.Add some really expensive ones (like out of Liberty of London fabric) for those who want upscale and to increase your profit margin per piece. Check out Sandra Stillwell Presents (who started as one lady but now hires) to see what people will pay for doll clothes --also The Shape of Vintage on ETSY, who IS one lady. I intend to learn to sew if anyone can show me something on YouTube to start with--but I will never be that good!

Thanks! I'll have to look in to them! I have 2 teenagers at home that I keep trying to hire to do work for me but they tend to be lazy and hate doing it DH really helped me the other day though and cut out probably 100 or more pieces of denim for me....he was exhausted after lol. I'm up to 534 saddles sold already this year....that's almost half what I sold all of last year and April tends to by my busiest month! I'd love to raise my prices a bit but I'm already quite a bit higher than other sellers on Etsy/Ebay but I definitely have a lot of return people! Here's the link to my shop if anyone wanted to check it out :)

Got a good start on cleaning up the garden today. Nice weather for that. Planted Sugar Snap Peas and Red Orach.
I found my garlic plants is growing. Chickens dug them out of mulch. I usually start my graden at the first week of April. We had extremely strong wind yesterday. My tarp was ripped off from the coop. But chickens were still happily running around in the yard.

It is "chickweed season" - look around your property and if you have lots of chickweed, start pulling it for your poultry. If you only have a limited amount, try to leave the roots and some stems to regrow. If it is in your garden, pull it all for the chickens so you can plant there later.

I have to give up my beautiful Black Ameraucana rooster, less than 1 year old, originally from Dennis. He is a truly wonderful rooster. However, he crowed one too many times, before I had his no-crow collar adjusted for spring. Now they might take away all my chickens, but he has to go right away.

Dennis mentioned perhaps @VictoriaTemple or @Blarneyeggs could use him. His picture when he was younger is my avatar. Now he looks like:

Edited to say: he is a tad bit ragged right now, but I think he may be molting.

I have long recommended the black ameraucanas as flock roosters, especially the line this one came from. They are big and beautiful birds and some people think hawks are more intimidated because they are black like crows and ravens, a hawk's worst nightmare!
I've never know one to be anything but a perfect gentleman with the hens and people. If you were thinking of getting a rooster, this would be a great one to start with. And all his daughters will lay blue or green eggs - the blue egg genes are strong with this one!
