I have a breeding pen with 12 hens and yesterday I had to pull 5 broodies out of the nest boxes before I could retrieve the 2 eggs laid. Not even June and they are quitting laying. I guess I need to raise up some pullets and let these hens go feral where they can make their own familes.

:gig These chickens and chicks are keeping me in stitches. The gutsy LH just ran across the property to me because it saw me poke my head out the door. Last night Duckling was out with me, and had pizza crusts on a plate. She had it sitting on a low table. The roosters were both taking food off it for the chicks (Jim) and the hens (Meat Loaf). Without Duckling seeing, the RSL walked behind the chair and table, and stole crust for herself.

Leghorn or leghorn mixes are the ultimate in unabashed begging. We have a mix (only 1/4 LH) who hounds us constantly when we are out. Her name is now PITA (Pain In The A..) because she is so underfoot we have had to move her when running tractor mower and vehicles, not to mention literally tripping over her. Her mom was either Barbie or Stacie, one of our 2 California (girls) whites from a few years ago, they were horrible beggars also.
