I went looking for one of my clucks last night. Thought the fox we have been seeing got her. Her 3 week old chicks were roosted in a nest box. Turns out she was in the barrel with extra "stuff" right where she had hatched the chicks.

Leghorn or leghorn mixes are the ultimate in unabashed begging. We have a mix (only 1/4 LH) who hounds us constantly when we are out. Her name is now PITA (Pain In The A..) because she is so underfoot we have had to move her when running tractor mower and vehicles, not to mention literally tripping over her. Her mom was either Barbie or Stacie, one of our 2 California (girls) whites from a few years ago, they were horrible beggars also. These chickens and chicks are keeping me in stitches. The gutsy LH just ran across the property to me because it saw me poke my head out the door. Last night Duckling was out with me, and had pizza crusts on a plate. She had it sitting on a low table. The roosters were both taking food off it for the chicks (Jim) and the hens (Meat Loaf). Without Duckling seeing, the RSL walked behind the chair and table, and stole crust for herself.
@troyer your group was always broody based from what I remember, especially the game hens?
@OneMountainAcres Did you mention having hermit crabs?
