You just feed your chicks sprouted oats as they are growing and it won't make any difference it's winter instead of summer.

ok so...where would one find/get sprouted oats?
======================
Hi Golddogsmom,
Here's the thread with illustrated posts. I discuss it a lot as
3riverschick and so did a lot of others. to get all the info, you'll want to browse thru pages 23-33. It's really easy, just a lot of small posts, smile. All the proportions are there. Oats have long been proven to be the very best seed to sprout for your birds. You want
forage oats, not
seed oats. Forage oats are the oats farmers and hunters plant for pasture food for animalss. Plotspike Forage Oats from
Tractor Supply is the best I have found. Not genetically modified(GMO), they were instead especially linebred at Louisana State University for hunters to plant as feed plots for deer. one 50 lb. bag of seed (20-24.00) makes 330 lbs. of spouted oats , so lasts forever. I store mine in the kitchen between seasons.
On the other hand,
seed oats are what they feed horses at the stables. This seed has a chemical on it which keeps it from molding. So if you try to spout seed oats, it will mold instead of sprouting.
Best,
Karen in Ligonier
