i don't know about the being shipped makes them harder to hatch, i started out with shipped black coppers, thats how i got my start in the marans, hatching my own eggs now, still sometimes hard, the hardest egg i have ever seen to hatch is the brahma's, out of eight eggs, if i hadn't chipped the egg and helped the chicks out i would have lost three of the five chicks

Re: stinkbugs
Put some dish detergent in a spray bottle full of water, spray the stink bug and they die almost immediately.

Good to know! I got woken up last night by one crawling on my ear. Needless to say, I swatted at it because I was half asleep and ended up with a stinky ear. I was up a lot earlier than usual this morning.

ok y'all. How do I get NPIP certified? And does anyone know how I find out about becoming a tester?

I called the state ag department and received my information and application last week. There was a card attached for Nan Hanshaw 717.772.2852

Dang!!!! Ah well...I'm hoping something pans out. If nothing else, I've got a short amount of time I can keep them. Plus, I'll take them to the Lucasville, OH show and see if I can sell any.

Also, does ANYONE do poultry testing as of right now? I need to have some PT/AI testing done for my birds so I can show them at the end of May?

I think it was because they were shipped eggs. When I used to have more than a few cuckoo marans and hatched them, I had a pretty good hatch rate.

I also had a really hard time hatching BBS Orps. Got 3 out of 12 ~ the eggs were not shipped, so go figure.

I would LOVE a splash pullet. I hope to get more eggs soon, am LOVING the type on my Blacks.
